Mediterraneo opens a second location in Norwalk @ Hotel Zero Degrees

Bellinis and margaritas...ah, the perfect way to start a lazy Sunday ;)

Bellinis and margaritas at Mediterraneo

Now, let’s play a guessing game.  What do you think these all have in common?  They all serve Italian?  Well, kind of.  They all feature seafood?  Well, kind of.  They all have been created by Ramze Zakka of Z Hospitality Group?  Good answer, good answer team.  You guys and gals are on top of things!

It’s pretty cool to say that we’ve been to every single one of those restaurants, but now we have another one to try starting on Monday, 4/29, for dinner.  On that day at the brand new Hotel Zero Degrees in Norwalk, the second Mediterraneo in Connecticut will be open.  From there, according to a recent press release on Stamfordplus, they’ll be easing into things with dinner only until May 7 and having Sunday brunch starting on May 12.  At that brunch you can enjoy a celebratory Bellini or Mimosa.

Now, onto the restaurant itself and what you can expect.  Well, this one is pretty easy.  As of now, it looks like Chef Albert DeAngelis will be serving the same basic menu as Mediterraneo in Greenwich.  When you hit up this brand new Norwalk restaurant you can expect a strong focus on seafood dishes with some classic Italian choices, and even some pizza from the brick oven.  Plus, it doesn’t hurt that there will be killer views of the Norwalk River through specially designed expanding windows.

We’ve been to Mediterraneo twice and recently published a review if you’d like to check that out.  Just as a quick recap, we had dinner and “blunch” and enjoyed our dishes.  Some of the dishes that really stood out were the grilled octopus over blood oranges, the goat cheese tartlets, grilled sliced Angus, and a soft poached egg over wood roasted veggies with prosciutto di Parma, all served on a crostino.  Also, we can’t say enough about their meatballs and chitarra (guitar, named for the machine used to create the thick pasta) that really hit the spot.

So, wrapping things up, we’re excited about the prospects of Mediterraneo in Norwalk which can really use another excellent seafood-focused restaurant.  We also hope that their brunch will migrate over to their Greenwich location.

In addition, we’re excited to see what the new Hotel Zero Degrees looks like.  We were impressed with their Stamford location when Kristien’s parents came to stay.  The rooms were clean and sleek, and the lobby was modern and stunning.  Plus, it certainly didn’t hurt that the prices were ridiculously awesome.  They’ll be offering up a warm breakfast buffet (cold buffets suck), wifi, local shuttles, Starbucks all day long so you can stay caffeinated, and you can check out their rooftop lounge!

What have been your experiences at the restaurants in Z Hospitality Group?  Let us know!

Food and service good at Mrditerranio and lovely views (who knew the river was even there)! Noise level was OUTRAGEOUS! So loud a normal conversation cannot be had.

Well, we’re glad the food and service were great. As for the river and the waterfall, we’re excited to see that! So cool. As for the noise level, urrg. That’s one of the most frustrating things for us! We hate when we can’t hear who we’re with. :)
