Très Bien: Focus on French Cinema Festival…and Food! 3/23-3/25

21 Mar

Although most of what I learned of the French language was from Gambit of X-Men or Pepé Le Pew, we still love the French culture and culinary scene.  Well, this weekend you’re going to get the best of both worlds:  French cinema and food.  Yes, it’s the 8th Annual Focus on French Cinema 2012.

The bubbly pops open March 23 and pours out until March 25 at The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College, NY.

Here’s a basic breakdown of the days:

March 23

Screening of Angèle and Tony (87 minutes) at 7, followed by…

The Gala Buffet:  “LES MAITRES CUISINIERS DE FRANCE and THE ACADEMIE CULINAIRE DE FRANCE are back again this year to indulge guests with the best of French Cuisine at the OPENING NIGHT GALA BUFFET. Sip champagne Perrier-Jouët sponsored by PERNOD-RICARD and mingle and meet our guests!”

The Silent Auction:  “Bid on everything from a Champagne Sunset cruise on Long Island Sound to a African Safari for two at the Zulu Nyala Private Game reserve.”

March 24

At 11:45, you can participate in La Table Ronde:  “At this year’s Round Table, discussions between actors and directors…will showcase the new generation of French cinema.”

From 12-6 pm you can watch a series of short films.

From 12-8 pm you may stroll down “Rue des Restaurants,” Restaurant Street!  Oh, mon cherie, come along with us and partake just some of the food available:

• Wine and coffee

• Croques-monsieurs, crêpes, quiches

• Miniature apple tarts

• Foie gras and oxtail torchon

• Cotignac (quince) en coulis

•  Everybody’s favorite…macarons!

• Tuna tartare

• Sausage and herb polenta with Beaufort

• Chocolate, products from D’Artagnan, and more…

Food will be provided by Provence en Boite in Brooklyn, Jean-Louis in Greenwich, L’atelier du chocolat, Union League Cafe in New Haven, Orsay Restaurant in NYC, D’Artagnan, Swiss Favorites, White Toque , Les Canelés de Céline of NYC, and Wave Hill Breads of Wilton.

March 25

“Rue des Restaurants” from 12-6 pm.  Oui, two days!

Four feature films being shown from 11-6.
