Update: Trader Joe’s Stamford will be open for business on 10/31, Halloween! Their hours are 8 am to 9 pm.
Every time we’d drive up High Ridge Road, we’d get sad thinking about Borders disappearing and just seeing the “For Lease” sign. Day after day, month after month. We wondered what could go in there? A restaurant, a store, something cool? Well, there isn’t any need to guess or to be sad anymore. As ctpost.com has reported, Trader Joe’s is going to take over the now vacant spot. Thanks for making us aware of this, Headbanging Hostess.
Yes, Trader Joe’s. If you’ve ever been inside of a Trader Joe’s, you know that it’s a food lover’s paradise. Plenty of snacks, cereals, and coffee greet you as you enter. Then, you see all the freshly prepared salads, lunches, and meats. We’re getting hungry just thinking about it. Then you an amazing variety of frozen foods that are creative and unique…not your typical grocery food. Well, that’s just about a 1/4 of the store. There’s still their amazing variety of olive oils, their health section, their dairy section, their bakery, and…well, you get the idea. It’s a grocery store. :)
For that reason, Trader Joe’s is the kind of place that you go into and just keep wandering around and checking out, aisle by aisle, shelf by shelf. Really, it can’t be helped. You know that rule, go into a grocery store with a full stomach? That definitely applies here. Otherwise, you’ll end up with those amazing chocolate toffee crunch bars. Wow. Heaven in a tiny package. Plus, you don’t have to worry about clipping coupons or hoping to get in on a great sale. We’ve always loved that about Trader Joe’s. Their price is their price, plain and simple. You’ll definitely save money shopping here as compared to other high-end food shops.
Also, if you’ve been to a Trader Joe’s, you know that they have a nice variety of beer available. We have noticed, though, that the produce at the Connecticut shops isn’t as fresh as other places. For the most part, the produce doesn’t last as long as you might expect. Another problem that we sometimes run into is that you can’t always find everything at Trader Joe’s, so we’ve had to stop at Whole Foods to pick up the last 4% of our groceries.
That being said, we’re excited to have Trader Joe’s in town, only about 7 minutes away from our house. You won’t have to wait that long either. According to the same article mentioned above, they’ll be open in March 2013. Let’s make shopping for food a bit more fun, right?
Is there a pharmacy in trader joes?

Hey there Kainat. We’ve never seen a pharmacy in Trader Joe’s, no, we’re sorry. But, just a few steps away is a pharmacy…you know that complex where there’s a Starbucks? So, you can get everything done nice and easy! :)

That used to be a supermarket years ago (GranCentral?) so it’s nice to see things come full circle.

Hey J. :) We had no idea it was a supermarket before that. We’re relatively new to the area, so anything that happened 5 or more years ago is news to us often. :) But, you’re right…it’s nice to see things go full circle. :)

Combined with the Farmer’s Market in the lot next store = produce problem solved! Now if CT would just sell wine in grocery stores we’d be golden.

Yeah, that’s true Terri. Great combo! :) Man, we knew you were smart and stuff. :)

My wife will be thrilled. She’s a frequent patron of TJ’s in Darien. Sad they don’t have “Two Buck Chuck” at their East Coast stores.

Yeah, wish they were able to sell wine here. How great would that be? Can’t beat the Two Buck Chuck. :P hehe They still have these giant JUGS of wine at the liquor store if you look carefully enough. Something like Carlo Rossini? Giant jug for about 7 or something. Hehe.

They have a TJ wine store at union square in the city. they can only have one tj wine store per state…so why can’t they have one in CT?

Jen, we need Two Buck Chuck! Imagine how awesome that would be with a wine store. Do you know they limit it to one per state?

Salvation! – sometimes it is difficult for me to get to Darien and that store is small, but High Ridge, where Boarders was – easy!

First a Five Guys, now a Trader Joe’s? When did Stamford start getting so important and awesome? I love this town more every day.

Yeah, no doubt. We’re all important and stuff. Plus, we’re getting Dinosaur Bar-b-que. That just makes us probably one of the most important places in the world.

Wow Truly the highlight of my day! I agree about the traffic getting to Darien it has definitely been a deterrent for me at times. Granted we are spoiled to have so many Trader Joe’s to choose from here in Fairfield county but I’m not complaining at all!!

This is awesome news!!! This should be a pretty big Trader Joe’s too, atleast in comparison to the ones in Darien and West Hartford. The new location is also awesome cause the Whole Foods in Darien, while only a town away from Stamford can be a pain to get too when there is traffic (which seems to be all the time, haha). Fairway covers similar ground in terms of awesome food but the vastness of the place can be kind of overwhelming.

Yeah, you know…you’re totally right. While Trader Joe’s can get a bit cramped up because of shoppers, it’s refreshing to be in and out of the store with your groceries in half the time of bigger stores. We LOVE that.
Plus, wow…it’s literally four turns and just 7 minutes away for us. The Trader Joe’s in Darien is about 20 minutes, while the Whole Foods is 15. It’s a strategic place for people in Springdale and the neighboring towns. :)
Plus, think they have Sixpoint beer :P
