Our ol’ go-to pizza/beer spot is becoming bigger and better. Soon (hopefully by the end of September) it’ll be a whole lot easier to get a table, grab a beer, and nom away on a slice of their coal-fired pizza. This has all been made possible by getting the shop next store, gutting it out, then sprinkling on the Coalhouse mojo. When you go into the new room, you’ll notice how big the room is, filled with tables, a bar, and more. Onto the more part: you’ll notice that you can do more than just eat at Coalhouse Pizza. Gerard and co. have a shuffleboard table, darts, karaoke, and Golden Tee 2013 so you can drink some cold ones or eat while you destroy your friend (or significant other) at any of those games. Plus, there will be four large flat screen tvs for your viewing pleasure. And, you asked for it, now you’ll have it: 60 additional seats. That’s enough to spread out and also enough for a nice party. Just sayin’.
One of the first things that Coalhouse Pizza has planned for the next space is a monthly series of beer classes that you can attend to learn more about beer or even how to homebrew. PhD. in Beerology? Yes. Masters in Brews? You know it. Beer Philosopher? Most definitely. The first date is October 8 and will be hosted by Brendan Kingston of B. United International. On topic? “Hopstacle,” a talk about the five major hop growing areas and their different flavors and aromas. To really get what he’s talking about, Coalhouse will have five beers for tasting that use those exact hops.
Maybe you can use that knowledge to help you brew some killer beer in the Coalhouse Pizza and Maltose Express homebrew competition, too? Entries are due by November 19, 2012. Winners get gift certificates to Maltose Express and Coalhouse and will be announced at the Homebrew Club meeting on December 4 at 7 pm. Coalhouse Pizza holds this contest quite often, so definitely keep up with them if homebrewing is a passion of yours and you want to meet other beer-minded folk.
Cheers, folks.

I always feel guilty taking up space if Im not getting a full blown meal. This will encourage me to head down for those one or two beers AND give me something to do while I’m at it. Not that I want to turn it into a sports bar, but a little football on the tube never hurts in autumn either.
Are they knocking a wall down? Or are the entry ways about to get real busy?
Hope the staff/kitchen can keep up!

Someone should tell them they forgot the “8” in the poster— it’s definitely Monday, October 8th?!

Wow, look at that Pwolly. Good eye. :) Yes, it’s October 8th. Gerard has sent some e-mails out and he gave that date, plus he told us a few weeks ago about it. We’ll have to let him know. :)

I can’t say I approve of the addition of Golden Tee, as I find a check mark next to “Golden Tee enthusiast” to be an ominous sign of someone’s personality.

Hehehe David, yeah, well, they are a crazy lot. Then again, so are dart enthusiasts. My friend Paul and I went to a bar in Saranac Lake once during college and we were playing darts. An old game came up and asked if we didn’t mind that he played.
So, we let him play. He opens up his jacket, takes out a fancy designer case and opens up really amazing and beautiful darts. Freaking manic as hitting all bullseyes. What’s up with that?

I had my own darts at one point. :) but was never particular good, nor one to challenge strangers. Still, I find dart players a less aggressive lot, surprising given the sharpness of the darts. You could put an eye out even with the plastic tipped ones.
