Colony Grill in Stamford has long been one of the pizza places that people throughout Connecticut (and beyond) talk about, many arguing that it’s the best. Maybe it’s the hot oil, maybe it’s the fresh sausage made right across the street, or maybe it’s just the no-frills attitude of a simple menu of just ingredients…whatever the maybe is, it’s hard to find a person who hasn’t at least tried Colony’s pizza. Well, it seems that more people will be on to this pizza joint with the filming of a national TV show. While the specifics of the show aren’t out yet, you can try to get into the background or maybe you’ll even be one of the lucky people who gets interviewed during the taping next week. Yes, just show up for lunch at 11:30 am on Wednesday, 1/9 and you can witness the taping.
As you know, there always seems to be a wait at Colony Grill Stamford, so if you want to take a part in the TV magic, make sure you get there early. Just think, this could be the start of your big career as a commentator on food shows. Think of what you’ll say now and practice, practice, practice. :) If you want some advice about what to talk about, check out our first review of Colony Grill, Stamford or our take on the Riko’s Pizza controversy.
Keep on noming!
Colony Pizza tastes like cardboard. It’s horrible. There are 50 other pizza parlors to go to in Fairfield county, I’d recommend all them before wasting your time at Colony.

Hey Dom…they won’t (and can’t) say, but they were able to say that it’s a new TV show that will air nationally that is dealing with pizza. When we do get solid details, we’ll be sure to let you know. :)

If we’re talking Fairfield Pizza I’ll throw Nauti Dolphin’s hat in the ring. Colony is unique in their menu offering, and the hot oil is especially delicious but I’ll take Nauti Dolphin over colony 6 days of the week… now that I’m done with that little rant… Pretty cool that Colony will be on TV. Looking forward to hearing more about it. Will you guys be there on the 9th?

Hey Jason. We love Nauti Dolphin and actually used to live in Black Rock, so we’d get those pies pretty often. The location, though, is annoying if you’re not a commuter because of that train parking lot. Other than that, we love it so much.
We won’t be able to be there on the 9th, unfortunately. :( Work shmerk.

My friends who live in Stamford rave about Colony. Even though I grew up there, I had never visited the place. When I was living in Fairfield a few years ago and they opened a location there I decided to give it a try. I sat down and ordered a pie w/ mushrooms. The waitress looked at me and said “just to let you know our mushrooms come out of a can.” I was pretty surprised. The place only serves pizza and only has a dozen or so topping choices, so shouldn’t they pay a little more attention to them? How hard is it to get some fresh mushrooms? I passed on the canned goods and ordered a plain pie. It didn’t find it to be anything special. Maybe the place had been over hyped for me and I was expecting more? I still prefer Frank Pepe’s. I’ve move out of CT now, but on my next trip back maybe I will give the place a second chance. Maybe I needed to order a pie w/ lots of toppings to get the full experience. In the meantime, I am happy to have finally found a good pizza place here in Georgia (Peppino’s – Athens, GA). Now to find a local equivalent of Garden Catering. Hmmmm.
Please post what national TV show is filming once it’s announced.

This is the third time we’ve tried to comment, but the browser window kept disappearing on us. Let’s hope this one works…:)
Canned mushrooms, huh? Well, there is something charming about their sliminess, huh? :P We have had Pepe’s and think it’s good, but we still favor Colony. It’s weird…we all have different versions of what makes the perfect pie or perfect burger. Because there are so many different styles, it’s hard to say which is best. It’s easy, though, to say which one you like the most. :)
Sadly, you’ll never find another spot like Garden Catering. :) That’s what you need to do…open up a Garden Catering, Athens! :)
Once we find out what tv show is taping, we’ll let you know :)

I grew up with Colony. I don’t compare it to NH pizza. Different animal. I live in Pgh now and there’s nothing close to Colony, but there are some very good Neapolitans (no Pepes/Sally coal oven though). Whenever I’m back in town I try to leave time to get one as I do love it. It’s a favorite, but I’d never suggest it’s the one true ‘best’. Every decade or so I get a jones for Greek pizza and will go to Hope St., then remember why I only get that jones once every 10 years :-)

Yeah, it’s really hard to duplicate that Colony Grill taste and flavor. Pepe’s, your right, is a totally different animal. :) As for Hope Street pizza, good point. :P hehe You just need that little fix and that’s good. Hope you have a Happy New Year, Scott!

Just re-read your original take on Rico’s (Now “Riko’s”). I’d just like to point out that Colony also does routinely take their phone off the hook too when they are too busy, they have for years. Just part of the deal when the kitchen gets backed up. Colony still is the real deal. Riko’s comes close.

They do, huh? See, we never call them, we just show up, so maybe that’s why we never noticed. :)
