Danbury Chili Winter Warm Up Tasting + Contest and 5K Heats up February!

30 Jan

Chili…it’s one of the best things about winter and one of the best ways to deal with winter.  That’s not to say that you can’t have chili during warmer months, but nothing warms you up better than a piping hot bowl of beefy, tomatoey, beany chili.  We know you love your chili, so we’re going to let you know about a tradition in Danbury:  the Chili Winter Warm Up.  Just stop by the Danbury Ice Arena on 2/10 from 1-4 and taste and vote for some mouth-watering entries in the chili competition.  Tickets are $5 per person or $15 for the family…nice deal.  And, you’ll want to bring your family because there will be lots of activities for them, lots of entertainment, and you’ll be able to get discounted public skating!

Before all of this, though, you’ll be able to take part in The Big “Chili” 5K race.  It’s taking place during the same day, 2/10, but will start at 10:30 on the CityCenter Danbury Green.  The race will then loop back around and contestants will end up right back where they started.  The entry fee is $25 up until February 7, and $30 from 2/8 until race day.  If you’re registering on race day, please make sure that you get to Danbury Green from 9-10:15.  If you pre-registered, make sure to come by from 9-10:15 to prep, stretch, and pick up your info.  Also, here’s an added incentive to register:  the first 200 people will get t-shirts…scoreee.

It’s almost too bad the chili tasting wasn’t before the 5K.  Then contestants could have had their own backburning engines ignited after all the beans and spices. ;)

More info on both events can be found here.

Register for the 5K here.

I saw something about Saugatuck Craft Butchery providing meat for a chili contest… Know anything about that? I’d enter that in a heartbeat.

Yeah, seriously…it’s okay with a cup, maybe two…but once you have a ton of it…watch out. You become radioactive/toxic/flammable.
