Now open: slurp up a storm @ Mecha Noodle Shop in Fairfield, CT!

31 May

Ah. Take a dive into that! Pic from Mecha’s FB page.

Start your slurping engines, kiddos.  Mecha Noodle Shop (from the same owners of the highly rated Pho Vietnam in Danbury) is now serving up ramen in the former Liquid Lunch spot in Fairfield.  Although it’s only a soft-opening this week, you’ll still be able to taste all the great soups and apps that they have prepared.  As for the opening, expect that very soon.  And, when you drink those soups, don’t be afraid to slurp.  In fact, “Slurping Encouraged” is printed on the bottom of their menus.  It’s pretty common in Japan and ramen bars to hear lots of slurping and sloppy noises.  The main reason?  It actually helps to cool the broth down.  See, there’s a reason for everything.

Now, let’s get down and dirty into the heart of what Mecha Noodle Shop will be all about.  Think of the food that they’ll be serving as, they call it, “Asian soul food.”  Along with that kind of food, you can come in to Mecha and try totally different foods than you’ve ever had before.  In a promo video they posted, they showed there would be no sushi and no karaoke.  Instead, Mecha will have that gastropub kinda feel and will be a great place to meet up with friends…or even make new friends.  They’ll be serving up the very popular Sun Noodles and will be sourcing meat for their soups and dishes from Saugatuck Craft Butchery.  Now onto the menu…it will be constantly evolving, but in the meantime how about snow crab ramen soup?  Or, (according to Caitlin Mazzola of Patch) how about kale salad, chicken and veggie ramen, pork belly bao, Korean Fried Chicken bao, or the (dessert) drooling bao with candied bacon?  What’s also good is that they will have gluten-free options with rice noodles!

The restaurant itself will feature light wood throughout, making for a very simple yet striking appearance.  Plus, one of the best features in the joint will be the open-air kitchen that you can get a full view of directly from the noodle bar (it’s an actual bar that you can sit at).  Fairfield County is definitely in need of a hip, sleek, fun eating experience in a market of restaurants that all seem to be serving the same things.  Mecha is definitely poised to break the mold and we wish them lots and lots of success.  So, pucker those lips and practice your slurping skills…you’re gonna need ‘um.

We’ll update you with more info when it becomes available.

Ooh – I’ve been to some great ramen places in NYC, but I didn’t know we had any in CT.

Well, now we do! :P There are some out by New Haven, too, it seems, but this is a great new one here in the lovely Fairfield County. If you go, let us know what you think.

They do have rice noodles and are very careful with ingredients for people who are gluten free!

Any sense whether gluten-free noodles (rice, sweet potato, etc.) will be offered as an option?
