Soup’s on at Wakeman Town Farm with Chef Craig Charlton!

Wakeman Town Farm Soup Workshop

Is there anything better on a crisp fall or cold winter day than a bowl of soup and a nice hunk of yummy bread to go with it?  No, not really.  And we all have our favorite soups, too:  NE Clam Chowder (you’re banned from here if you like Manhattan Clam Chowder, btw), Italian Wedding Soup, French Onion, Tomato, and of course Minestrone.

Speaking of Minestrone, that’s what you’ll learn to make at a special Soup & Bread Workshop at Wakeman Town Farm on 10/6 from 10 to noon.  Chef Craig Charlton, who is a Westport native and has nearly 30 years of restaurant experience, will lead you through the steps in creating an amazing soup that’s sure to warm your heart and soul. He’ll also show you how to make a killer herbed flatbread, too, because what’s a soup without some bread to dip into it?

You’ll get to take home the recipe, also, so you can make this classic soup over and over again.  There are only 20 spots available for this workshop, so get on it and either call them at (203) 557-9195 or e-mail to reserve your spot by October 1.  When you arrive on October 6, you can pay the $20 workshop price by cash or check.

Here’s a little more about Chef Charlton from a recent press release that we received from Wakeman Town Farm:

Chef Charlton, a Westport native, has 25 years of restaurant experience, most recently as Chef/Owner of Trattoria 225 in Oak Park, IL. He has also worked with the Greenbrier Hotel & Resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV & as a Partner with Buca di Beppo Restaurants nationwide.
His culinary approach is often simple, straightforward preparations of farm fresh, seasonal ingredients. Community involvement has always been in the forefront of his success incorporating a sustainable practices in his mission. He participates in the National Restaurant Associations’ Pro-Start program, teaching high school students about the hospitality industry and provides a real time “day in the life” opportunity by offering job shadow positions within his restaurants.
