A couple of weeks ago we told you how October is American Cheese Month, so imagine our surprise when we discovered that October is also National Apple Month. Yeah, those two totally go together and are best buds as far as we’re concerned.
So, what better way to celebrate this juicy and tantalizing month than getting out to some local Connecticut orchards and picking bushels and bushels of the good stuff? But, while you’re there, you’ll also want to get you some apple cider. Oh yeah! Now, that made us wonder…where do we go?
After checking out The Connecticut Apple Marketing Board, we were surprised at not only how many apple farms CT has, but we were also amazed to see the varities of apples that we grow here. In August, farms are producing GingerGold, Jersey Mac, and Paulared, while in September they are producing Macoun, Gala, Cortland, Ida Red, Empire, Pippin, Honey Crisp, and Spartan apples. During October you can find Fuji, Jonagold, Eastern Red Delicious, Rome, Liberty, Crispin (Mutsu), Baldwin, and Northern Spy apples.
