You are no chef if you can’t properly put together a warm and comforting bowl of soup. And, no, a can of Campbells or Progresso won’t cut it. That’s because soup is a complex beast, full of layers of flavor, bases, differing textures, and varied cooking techniques and times.
To help you perfect this art, you’ll need to stop by to see Nicole Straight of Marcia Selden Catering & Event Planning. She’ll be at the Darien Community Association on 11/12 from 12:30-2 pm, showing how to make perfect fall soups. Tickets are $90 for members or $100 for non-members.
You can also check her out on 12/12 from 12:30-2 pm for another day of cooking. This time the focus will be Gifts from the Kitchen. Chef Straight will teach you how to create flavored salts (we love those things!), cookie dough-to-go (that won’t last long with us), sweet treats, and lots of other great things that you can give as treats and presents for the holiday season. You’ll be taking home a bunch of gifts and goodies, too, so get ready for a great time.
To register for one or both of these events, go to dariendca.org, e-mail them at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling them up at (203) 655-9050. You’ll need to register by 11/10 for the Fall Soup class and by 12/10 for the Gifts from the Kitchen class.
