Merci Beaucoup: Marc Penvenne of Méli-Mélo Relaunches Versailles in Greenwich

Now that we’ve been around Greenwich for over a year, we can just scrape ourselves out of bed on a lazy Sunday and head over to one of our favorite breakfast spots, Méli-Mélo.  Despite the annoyance of finding a spot and the sometimes long lines, it’s all worth it at the end when you’re devouring some killer crepes.  If you’ve been to this Greenwich Ave. mainstay and hotspot, chances are that you’ve seen and talked with owner Marc Penvenne.  He’s always making the rounds, helping seat people, and making sure that everything runs smoothly.

Well, he’s been a bit busier as of late.  That’s because he has brought Versailles back to life, breathing new life to the closed (Easter, 2013) landmark restaurant that’s been around since 1980.  It’s kind of ironic, huh?  Marc came to Greenwich from France and began as a manager at Versailles, left to open Méli-Mélo (right across the street), and now owns Versailles.  Quite the full circle.

And now Versailles is officially “grand opened” with a successful soft launch and the recent release of their new menu.  The dishes and focus of the food were formulated by Méli-Mélo Executive Catering Chef Cedric Lamouille and a noted French chef.  Versailles now offers even more items on the menu that are classically French like their Beef Tartare and fresh cut fries, yet also cross over to more modern takes on dining like the Roasted Vegetables Quinoa Paella.  As far as the wine goes, you can expect an excellent variety of French options that highlight some of the most popular varietals of their wine and drinks.  Bottles start in the high 20s and go up from there and there is also a good variety of wine by the glass, too.

Now, for the part that we’re most excited about:  the meal options.  Yes, Versailles will be open for dinner, but they’ll also be open for breakfast from 7-11:30.  Expect pastries, omelets, and some French and American breakfast classics.  And…there is brunch!  Oh, you know we’re there the first second that we’re free!  They’ll be serving Saturdays and Sundays from 11-3:30 and will feature dishes such as a quiche of the day that comes with salad, sandwiches, a variety of salad options, some standouts from their dinner menu, and lots more for you to devour with your mimosa.  Also, yes, they’ll be serving lunch…same hours as brunch with a similar menu.

Needless to say, we’re very excited to try “Bistro V” and see what this reincarnation has to offer Greenwich.  Just saying:  it would be an epic review if we threw together our meal experiences with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and brunch.  Man, that’s a lot of eating, but it’s a very worthy cause. ;)
