We feel that catering businesses often don’t receive all the great press and recognition that they deserve. They are part chef, part baker, part server, part host, and…well…it exhausts us to even watch them do their thang. So, it’s great for us to see that Marcia Selden Catering of Stamford gets some great press quite often. For six years in a row, they’ve won Best Caterer from Moffly Media’s Best of the Gold Coast awards and were honored recently by being chosen as Caterer of the Year by the Connecticut Restaurant Association.
And, here’s some more: Robin and Jeffrey Selden will be a part of the world’s largest catering and events conference, Catersource and Event Solutions Conference & Tradeshow in Vegas (they won East Region Best Caterer last year). In fact, they’ll be offering three workshops for the thousands of people from across the US and over 30 countries. Robin will be working with Chefs Karen O’Connor and Elgin Woodman on an event called “3 Women Catering Chefs Whisk Up a Trio of Dinner Party Menus.” Also, both Robin and Jeff will be presenting “Best Day of our Lives, Creating Unique, Customized Weddings” and “Orchestrating the Perfectly Organized Event.”
Congrats to Marcia Selden Catering on their continued success…and now to shift gears a bit. Nicole Straight also works for Marcia Selden catering, but she’s got a different job to handle as of late. She’s been training for the annual Curtain Call’s Dancing with the Stars event. With her partner Ted Thomas, Nicole will be competing against 10 other couples on May 17 at the Palace Theater. The dancing and competition starts at 8, with a cocktail party from 6:30-7:45 that kicks off the event in style. Tickets are $25 for students or $50 for adults. If you’d like to also attend the cocktail reception, tickets will be $125 per person. Also, if you’d like to get Nicole some extra votes, you can donate $10 to Curtain Call (100% tax deductible) and help boost her to the top.
We asked Nicole about how the experience has been going (usually we’re asking her about food, so this was a fun change), and she shared her thoughts with us: “I’m thrilled to be able to represent Marcia Selden Catering to help raise money for such a fantastic theater like Curtain Call. I love having the chance to get out of my comfort zone, and Ted Thomas of the New England Academy of Dance is an amazing teacher.”
Good luck to Nicole, her partner, and all the other contestants!
