The debate rages on: what kind of potato cut produces the crispest exterior, yet has the perfect interior and crunch when you rip through it? Is it crinkle cut, French fries, hand cut, steak, waffle, tater, spiral cut, curls, or even those creepy smiley face ones?
While we may never truly know the answer, Shake Shack is onto something…plus they don’t want to use frozen anymore. They are phasing out their use of crinkle cut fries and replacing them with their fresh cut skinny fries. The new fries are already beginning to be served in NYC and will make their way out to surrounding areas soon. If you have a skinny fry spotting, hit us up on FB, Twitter, or Instagram with the photos.
Here’s what Shake Shack says about their skinny fries:
– HAND-CUT
– NEVER FROZEN
– TWICE-COOKED
– SKIN-ON
– IDAHO RUSSET
– ALWAYS FRESH
So, what’s your take? Will you miss their crinkle cut fries or do you eagerly await those crispy skinny fries that you can easily shove into your mouth, 20 at a time?

Big up to Chris Grimm for the inside scoop on this.
The new fries were a complete letdown! Even went and tried them a second time. All four people I was with agreed they didn’t stack up. Bland and no substance to them. I didn’t realize how much the fries made me love shake shack. My burger just didn’t taste quite as good without those crinkles…

Lizzie, that’s sad. When we went we did really love those crinkles. Maybe they’ll bring them bqck and offer both like before? At least the burgers are great. :)

Sounds like these new fries are healthier because they have the skin left on. Maybe twice fried will have more fat, though.
