Food Trucks, Demos, Living Green + More @ Fairfield’s Earth Day Celebration 2014

Earth Day happens every April 22, but the core and heart of this day is something that we hope lives on for the other 364 days a year.  “Living Green” isn’t about just recycling…there’s so much more that we can do to help out our Mama.  What exactly can you do, you ask?  We’ve got some ideas in our heads, but there’s also a huge celebration planned to answer just that question:  Fairfield’s Earth Day Celebration 2014!

This Earth Day celebration is free, open to the public, and is being held on 4/26/14 from 10-4 pm at Fairfield Warde High School.  Here’s a mere schmatering of what’s in store for attendees:


Food for Thought Cooking Demos (Foods Cooking Classroom, rear of school)

  • 10:  Chef Heath Avery Duncan, Breakfast Bling:  Be a Handyman in the Kitchen
  • 11:  Health Coach Amie Guyette Hall, Good Vibrations:  Our Daily Greens
  • 12:  Healthy Eating Specialist Sam Popalardo, Whole Food:  It’s What’s for Lunch!
  • 1:  Chef Victoria Eastus (Carrot Top Kitchens), Pickling 101:  Kitchen Basics
  • 2:   Veggiecator Educator Michelle Bostrup, Veggiecation:  For Kids in the Kitchen
  • 3:  Real Foodist + Blogger Kathy Caulfield, Reaching for Raw:  The Ripple Effect

 Interact and Learn

  • Recycle old electronics, clothing, and glasses for Big Brothers and Sisters
  • Find out more about how to help the environment, alternative energy, organic products and services, and even organic and sustainable gardening methods.
  • Check out an actual life size replica of Gustave Whitehead’s plane (many say HE was the first in flight)
  • View entries in the Fairfield’s Earth Day Celebration Arts Contest, “Trashy Fashions” from recycled materials, and a series of songs and skits about the environment.
  • Take part in an environmental issues Q&A Session from 11:30-12:30 with Congressman Himes, Senator McKinney, and Representatives Fawcett, Kupchick, and Hwang
  • Lots of live music, samples, games, and activities

Nom Away

  • Barlow’s Burritos:  veggie burritos made on the spot, how you like, by Fairfield Warde Culinary Arts students!
  • Skinny Pines Brick Oven Pizza:  Jeff Borofsky will have his portable pizza oven on hand, featuring from-scratch pizzas that use local and organic ingredients.
  • Cowabunga:  the grill’s on and the ice cream will be flowing!
