Swig + Swine @ Captain Lawrence Brewery Pig Roast 2014

9 May

Update:  we confirmed with Captain Lawrence and, yes…you’ll be happy…beer drinkage is unlimited with ticket purchase.  Sorry for any confusion.

Finally, it’s almost May 17…that time of year when Captain Lawrence Brewery in nearby Elmsford, NY puts on its annual Pig Roast…the 8th annual, to be exact. Tickets are pretty damn cheap, clocking in at only $15 if you’re a designated driver (includes unlimited non-alcoholic beverages, entertainment + brewery pass for the entire day) or $30 if you’re in it to get some drinking done (same as designated, but includes unlimited brews). The pig roast is going on from 12-6 pm and will be a blast for lots of reasons:

1) It’s Captain Lawrence beer, duh
     Check out their experimental beers!

2) There are two official bocce ball courts and cornhole

3) There’s lots of food available for purchase from Village Dog including (but not limited to):

     • Pig bowls

     • Pork, chicken, and seafood tacos

     • Cheeseburgers

     • Hot dogs

     • Pulled pork sandwiches

     • Vegetarian food

4) Beer author Mike Malone will be on hand to talk beer, sell and sign books

5) Pick up some doodads, knickknacks, and whirligigs:

    • Wardboards: Organized Cornhole Games

    • Blue Line Tactical

    • The Cigar Republic: Hand Rolled Cigars

6) Boom, MUSIC:

     • Rebecca Haviland and Whiskey Heart

     • Evan Watson and The Angry Orchard Band

     • Brooklyn Sugar Company

     • Matt Turk Trio

     • South County

Yea not gonna lie…have several friends more than a little disappointed at what is included and although I know it is highly unlikely (since you guys rock so hard and always get your facts straight) I hope you are somehow mistaken. I have an email in to the brewery and will call them after they open at 4PM. So now if you want to have 3 or 4 beers which is a reasonable amount if you attend most of the event this could go from a $40-$50 (including a little food and maybe 1 cigar) event to to $60 or more. $30 is pretty close to the price for some beer festivals (most I have been to are around 35). Also the main picture on their site advertising the event says “beverages” :(

ya im not really seeing the value here either. the brewery is normally open on weekends with food trucks so you can pay for food and beer. so this weekend you pay $30 to get in and then still pay for food and beer.

Basically $30 for some background live music…?

Hey, we get what you’re saying. You do a get a free drink and live music, though…yeah…you could certainly just go to the brewery on another weekend and just drink away for cheaper.

well good to know because i was all set to go to this for a while now.
but i dont think ill be shelling out $30 for one beer.

id imagine a lot of people end up disappointed after paying $30 and finding out that all the food and (most) of the beer is extra… love the brewery but just seems a bit of an odd event

Very much looking forward to this event. Craft Beer, BBQ, Cigars, Music and more. I have a kind of alcoholic-ly question. Are you aware if the price of admission covers as much beer as you want to drink. Or is it like you are paying to get in and you get a drink ticket or 2…Just trying to gauge the value…

Great combo of things, right? You get one free drink with entrance, beer after that would cost extra, but it’s not too expensive there for some brews. Love Captain Lawrence!
