Old news is not new news, people…that’s why we’re getting ya some of the freshest nomworthy bites of food news for Fairfield County (and beyond) for this weekend and next week, too.  This week we’re talking booze, br/lunch, food news, food trucks, festivals, farms, and farmers’ markets.  Full event listings here.  

Beer and Liquor Get Ya There Quicker

6/13:  Harry’s in Fairfield is hosting “Harry’s Open that Bottle Event” that will feature rare and exclusive Scotches, Ryes, and Bourbons that they’ve been stocking up on over the past few months.  Sample these awesome spirits from 5-8 and get some (or something similar) for yourself or dad this Father’s Day.

6/19:  Jack’s Abby launch party with co-founder Sam Hendler at 7 pm, held at Cask Republic Stamford.

Coalhouse Pizza in Stamford will also soon carry Thimble Island of Branford AND Jack’s Abby.  What what?

OEC Brewery in Oxford (CT’s newest beer producer) is open on 6/14 from 12-7 with after work hours coming soon on Friday.

Back East Brewery in Bloomfield is offering a special Father’s Day gift package for your hop-loving dad.  For $29.99 (plus tax) you’ll get a Back East tee (red, grey, or black), a BE hat (hipster, baseball, or winter), and a growler of beer.  And, if he’s kind of picky, they’ll give you an empty growler and a certificate for the growler fill of his choice.  They are open W-F from 4-7 and Saturday from 12-4.


Lunchtime… 

Morello Italian Bistro in Greenwich will start a prix fixe lunch menu  on Father’s Day.  For $24, you’ll get your choice of two dishes:  Pappa al pomodoro or  Vitello tonnato; Fettuccine primavera or Beef involtini.  Dads get a special dessert just for dining on 6/15, too.

Parallel Post has a special menu slated for dad on 6/15 from 1-10 pm.  In addition, you’ve got another reason to check out this spot in Trumbull:  “Brunch at the Post.”   Every Sunday, nom away on dishes like Grilled Asparagus, Prosciutto, Frizzy Leeks, Manchego Cheese, and Fried Egg; Fried Chicken, Belgian Waffle, Fried Farm Egg, and Mixed Berry Syrup; and Peach Cobbler Crepe with Chilled Creme.


Events, Updates, and Props

6/14 is CT Open House Day!  That means that different attractions throughout the state are either free or discounted.  Our suggestion?  Hit up the Pez Factory in Orange!

6/19:  Happy Hour fundraiser from 5-8 at Sweet Lucy Lynn’s for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  There will be live music, a special tapas menu, and drafts are buy 2 get one free.  Sweet Lucy Lynn’s is located at 77 North Main Street in Norwalk.

Saugatuck Craft Butchery was recognized this week by MeatlessMonday.com for instituting Meatless Monday, as was Spotted Horse Tavern that followed suit.

Shearwater Coffee Roasters is now on sale at Whole Foods Fairfield…how awesome is that?

Dairy Inn in Stamford has introduced the Southern Sundae:  a fried biscuit with cheesecake ice cream, grenadine drizzle, whipped cream, and a cherry on top.  Hot damn!

World of Beer and Paloma, both in Harbor Point, are nearing completion.  You ready, punks?


Food Truck News and On the Rocks

Bounty Food Truck has been added to the rotating lineup of food trucks hanging at Vet’s Park in Stamford from 11-2.  See them along with The Poutine King and Valencia on Tuesdays, or check out Firehouse Grill, Melt Mobile, and Lobstercraft on Wednesdays, or Firehouse Grill, Valencia, and Volta on Thursdays.

6/12-13:  Today, from 5:30-7:30 there will be complimentary cocktails and food from Dinosaur with live music from Oh Gee’s & Friends.  Don’t worry, there’s a tent for you to chill out under if it’s too soggy out.  On Friday there will be food, drinks and music on the waterfront outside of Paloma in Stamford from 6-9:30.

Mr. Frosty’s in Norwalk is bringing food trucks to their spot so you can get some great food and devour lots of ice cream and shakes.  All summer on Tuesdays from 5-8 check out Vanchetta and Thursdays from 5-8 get your seafood fix from Lobstercraft.


Festivals

6/12-15:  Opa!  Stamford’s biggest (and best in our opinion) Greek Festival is back!  Check it out at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church at 230 Newfield Avenue.  The hours are 6-11 on Thursday and Friday, 12-11 on Saturday, and 12-10 on Sunday.  We love to pick up some great gyros or souvlaki from the grill, then bring them inside where you can pick up wine and beer.

6/13-15:  Let your green flag fly at the Fairfield County Irish Festival at Fairfield University.  There will be food, music, Gaelic football, shops, and more.

6/14:  Celebrate Milford’s 375th birthday with Music on the Harbor (Lisman’s Landing @ 37 Helwig Street) from 3-9:30.  Sapphire Band will be on at 3, Dr. B. and the Brotherhood will be on at 6:30, and there will be fireworks at 9:30 to finish the night up.  Also, from 3-9 you’ll have a chance to get some wine and beer from Wines and More,and food from BRYAC, Lobstercraft, The Local Meatball, and Melt Mobile.

6/14-29:  The Barnum Festival is back and features parades, a ball, fireworks, a cruise, music, and Barnum Pub Fest from 5:30-8 on 6/20.  Tix are $20 each and that gets ya deals on “Ringmaster Red” beverages and gets you free bites from participating restaurants’ buffets

6/20-22:  Sun BBQ Fest is back!  BBQ (obviously), live music, a wing competition, food trucks, restaurants, and more.


Farms + Farmers Markets

Fresh Nation has joined up with Westport Farmers’ Market to provide local delivery.  Check out more about them and why they named us Local Food Champions!

6/14:  Stamford’s famous French Market runs every Saturday from 9-3 pm and continues until the first Saturday in November.  Find the French Market at the corner of Bedford and Forest.

6/14 Check out Fodor Farm in Norwalk with an Open House experience from 12-4.  Fodor Farm is located at 328 Flax Hill Road.  Not only will you be able to tour the farm, the community gardens, the greenhouse, and the kitchens, but you’ll also be able to get some grub from Lobstercraft and Hot off the Grille!

6/15:  Check out the opening of the Farmers’ Market in Common’s Park (Harbor Point) from 9-12 and every Sunday.  Henri’s will be on hand with some food options, too, so come hungry.
