There are lots of surreal moments that we remember. One of the most recent was rolling up to Coalhouse Pizza on Monday and hearing the DJ on 95.9 talk about the dinner we were headed to. WHAT? A shout out to Coalhouse Pizza and New England Brewing coming together to raise vital funds for the Bennett Cancer Center! Hours later, after a sprawling, decadent, and pourworthy dinner, attendees had raised a total of $1,200!
On hand were lots of Coalhouse lovers, NEBCO lovers, supporters of the cause, OmNomCT readers, friends, and the likes of James Gribbon from CTbites, Aron the CraftBrewGuy, Elizabeth Keyser of Connecticut Magazine (and so many more), Gregg Glaser of Yankee Brew News, and of course Sebastian, a brewer and MC for the night at NEBCO.
In typical Coalhouse fashion, those who arrived early were able to get started with a beer. Dan tried out a hoppy firkin of Galaxy Pale Ale and Kristien had ol’ reliable Elm City Lager. The first pairing hit tables: the wedge salad With the new Schnitzngiggles, a Marzen/Oktoberfest style brew. Around this time News 12 came by to cover the event, too…more surrealism.
Next up was the best pairing of the night according to James and Aron: the spicy chili and the Fat-ten-er #10 saison. One of the best chilis ever, hands down…and we’re not just saying that because we designed the menu.
Check out the rest of the courses in pics and captions. Thanks again to Gerard for putting together an amazing event, the staff for getting beer and food to the table, the kitchen staff for pumping out enough food for 120 people, New England Brewing for the amazing beer, and to everybody who bought a ticket.
See ya at the next beer dinner!
