CT Food News, Vol. 27: Cold Romans, Free Sake Bombs, Tap Takeovers, Epic Beer Collabos + More

29 Oct

Halloween Friday,

costumes and spooky movies.

Give me your candy.

Hope you were inspired by that haiku. If not, check out these inspiring events and news—and nom—worthy happenings.

Raus Coffee, makers of the Cold Roman, are going to release a brand new flavor. If you want in on this, make sure that you’re following them on FB and Twitter to find out. In related news, activate your Cold Roman (and other varieties) right at The Granola Bar in Westport.

City Limits in Stamford is offering 1/2 priced bottles of wine (yes, you can get wine at this diner!) when anybody orders any of their Allen Brothers Steaks. Steak AND inexpensive wine? Yes please.

10/30 Plan B Milford has a Dogfish Head tap takeover going on! They’ll have Namaste, Midas Touch, Bitches Brew, 90 Minute, Randall the Enamel Animal, and more!

10/30 Coalhouse Pizza has a New England Brewing tap takeover starting at 5 pm. That’s Elm City Pils, Sea Hag, 668 Neighbor of the Beast, Gandhi Bot, Galaxy Pale Ale, and LOCUST REIGN! Plus, get .50 wings, too.

10/31 Kawa Ni in Westport is bringing things back to the 80s and 90s with a Halloween par-tay! Just show up in a costume and Jeff will bang a gong for ya and get you a free sake bomb. Now, don’t try pulling that thing where you change out of the costume, leave, then come back with another costume. Chefs Bill and Jeff Taibe and Jeff Marron are onto your tricks! Ramen until 11, too, so come hungry.

10/31-11/1 World of Beer in Stamford will have 19 beers on tap for just $4, they’ll have $5 mixed drinks, and will take $2 off all wine. There will be music from 10-1 on both nights and there will be a costume party Friday night. A male and female will be judged to have the best costumes at midnight and take home $25 gift cards.

11/6 Stew Leonard’s Wines in Norwalk is hosting their 5th Annual Wine, Whiskey, and Craft Beer Tasting at their store to benefit the Norwalk Exchange Club. There will be over 100 drinks featured plus lots of bites to nom on from Stew’s across the street. The event goes from 6-8 with tickets only costing $40 per person. Buy them at SL Wines or by calling up Norwalk Exchange Club at (203) 424-1122. More info here

11/7 (and onward until Feb) Sugar & Olives in Norwalk will be hosting Farms and a Market at their store from 3-7 pm on Fridays. Basically, they’ve made it super easy for you to get all your produce and local goods just by visiting their store. Think of it as a one-stop-shop and indoor farmers’ market. Note that there won’t be a market on the Fridays after Thanksgiving, Christmas, and NYE.

11/11 Barley Vine in Bristol is hosting an Oynx Moonshine Tasting Dinner, starting at 6 pm. Tix are $65, inclusive of tax and tip. To get your reservation, call up (860) 589-0239.

Beer’d Brewing has just released an iPhone app (they are working on Android, don’t worry) that lets you see what they are pouring at the brewery, look at #beerporn, and check out the latest news for Beer’dos.

Sean Lawson of Lawson’s Finest Liquids in VT and Phil Markowski of Two Roads in Stratford were at New England Brewing Company recently. What were these awesome brewers doing there? Working on a reformulation of Atlantic Amber with head brewer Matt Westfall. SICK!

Overshores Brewing’s bottles are now available at Whole Foods in Milford, Danbury, Westport, Fairfield, West Hartford, and Glastonbury. They are working on expanding to other Whole Foods in CT, too, so be patient…or don’t be patient and just visit the brewery.

Captain Lawrence Brewery is putting out a collabo beer that will hit the shelves of local Whole Foods Markets. It’s called HOPSOMNIAC, an IPA made with the awesome Stumptown Coffee Roasters. Look for it in six packs or get your grower fill (Port Chester has this, just saying) starting this November.
