Day 4 of Gift-mas-ukah in Fairfield County takes us to another Shelton hotspot: Beardsley Cider Mill. Whenever you go, there’s always a line, and there’s a reason for that: people know where to get the good stuff. And, when you’re there, it’s hard to ever get just one thing!
Really, it’s impossible. See, you want to get some of the hot cider that they have when you enter, then you need to grab their awesome, 100% juice, orchard-made cider. (You can also use this same cider to make your own hard cider: and you can even buy a kit from them if you want to do this. Plus, we like to warm up our cider and pour in bourbon, yup.) And, while you’re sipping on hot spicy cider and you’re holding your cold cider, you’ll need to stock up on their killer selection of jellies, jams, and preserves. They have Pumpkin Butter, Apple Butter, Red Currant Jelly, Apricot Spreadable Fruit, Blueberry Spreadable Fruit, Elderberry Jelly, Boysenberry Preserves, Red Raspberry Preserves, and so many more. So, you’re holding all of that and you aren’t even at the cash register yet.
When you get to the register, you of course need to order their amazing apple cider donuts that are apple sugary on the outside and nice and moist on the inside. Sorry to say moist, but it’s true. But, see, you can’t stop there because they have some really fantastic pies, too. If you want to devour them right away, you can buy them fresh, but there’s also an option to buy one of the frozen pies so that you can have it at a later time . . . maybe at, say, a holiday dinner? Just saying.
And, if that’s not enough for you, there are still plenty of other local CT products there to purchase like honey made in Shelton.
Here’s a list of pies available:
- Pumpkin Cheesecake
- Fruit-n-Berries (apple, blackberry, raspberry, strawberry, & rhubarb)
- Sugar-free Apple (only available frozen)
- Chocolate Cream
- Coconut Cream
- Cherry (Holidays Only)
