Just a few days before Christmas, a couple months back, Dan trekked out to Greenwich Cheese Company. His mission? Find some great cheeses, breads, and meats for Christmas dinner at his parent’s house on Long Island. Parking was pretty easy with the back parking lot—that’s a nice tip for you when you visit. As he entered, Dan was so happy to see that there was a nice line of people waiting to order (and some try) cheese after cheese. Pretty awesome for only being open a few days!
Laura Downey, one of the owners of Greenwich and Fairfield Cheese Company light-heartedly said it was tough opening during the holidays, sharing that it has made everyone go in full force, off and running straight from the gate. As people pickled out their cheese, Dan looked around at all the great products that were around like breads, crackers, artisan sausages, pickles, hot sauces, special kinds of honey, and more. It was tough not to buy everything in the store, but Dan was good and settled on some truffled sausage, a very special truffle brie shipped from France only one time a year, and some awesome crackers. Service was excellent and it’s amazing that Laura even remembered Dan’s aversion to creamy and smelly cheeses, telling the person helping him that he wouldn’t like a sample of the truffle brie. LOL
Now that they’ve had some time to settle into their 154 East Putnam Avenue location, Greenwich Cheese Company has a weekend full of fun activities to celebrate their grand opening.
First up is a ribbon cutting at 10:30 am on 1/30 with First Selectman Peter Tesei. Then, you’ll want to come back for an Open House celebration from 5-7 filled with wine and lots of cheese. Making things even better, mix and mingle with Laura and Chris, the owners and master cheesemongers at both locations.
But, that’s not all, nope! On Saturday, 1/31, from 12-4 you’ll get to taste so much cheese that you just might start lactating. Seriously, that would be freaking cool. First up are the cheeses from The Cellars at Jasper Hill! Molly Browne will be on hand and will be sampling some of her best cheeses. Also, check out CT’s own Arethusa Dairy with Elena Santogade on hand. Yes, she’ll be bringing her cheese, too.
While you’re there both days, don’t forget to enter the raffle to win Greenwich Cheese Company gift cards and more cheesy things.
