Tasty Trifecta: Derby Day, Cinco de Mayo + Mother’s Day Events in Fairfield County

We’ve combed through a lot of restaurants and events in Fairfield County and are giving you our favorite choices for this amazing trifecta that is going down in the next two weeks. What a great time to be here in the 203, huh? So, check out some things to do to help justify your drinking habits or places to take mom to show her how much you love her. 

Derby Day

Cask Republic, Stamford: stop by one of our favorite spots in Stamford from 3-7 for Mint Juleps and flights of Bulleit bourbon! 

Mama’s Boy, SoNo: Greer and crew will be hosting a Kentucky Derby Party from 3-7. If drinking and chowing down isn’t enough, take your picture with cute ol’ Lil’ Secretariat from 4-6.

Plan B Burger, all locations: there will be raffles, a best dressed contest, a hat contest, a Derby Day inspired menu, Four Roses Mint Juleps all damn day, and of course a live feed of the races. It all goes down from 4-7 pm.

Rizzuto’s, Stamford: check out the happy hour menu featuring food and drinks specials, $5 Maker’s Mark Mint Juleps, and get a chance to win a $25 Rizzuto’s gift card if your horse comes in first!

Sign of the Whale, Stamford: Sign of the Whale wants you to talk derby to them and come dressed in your slickest derby digs. There will be mini ponies (ride on it, my pony), a contest for the best hat with a gift basket at stake, a special cocktail menu, and lots of giveaways.

Washington Prime, SoNo: Round the corner down to Washington Prime for a Kentucky Derby viewing party from 4-6:30 with some Woodford Reserve drink specials. There will also be a best hat contest and a raffle for a rare bottle of Woodford reserve.

Cinco de Mayo Parties

4/30-5/8 Bodega Taco Bar, Fairfield: First up, check them during this time for some crazy good specials like Mexican Fireballs, Derby Punch, Baby Back Rib Tacos, Pork Belly Lollipops, Mexican Pork Belly Ramen, and Porchetta Roast.

5/5 And you better believe they also have things going down on the actual day. Starting at 5, check out the Pig Roast and Pincho Party on their patio. There will be live music and dancing by Pana Musik and Patron will be there offering up bottle service, drink specials, and even giveaways. Also, check out Bodega Taco Truck and their sidewalk Cerveza Bar.

5/2 Jimmy’s Southside Tavern, Darien: what better way to celebrate May 5 than with a cornhole party? Hmm, well? The tossing begins at 2 pm . . . er, the tossing of the bags. The other tossing comes along later after too many drinks.

5/3 Mezon, Danbury: it’s a Cinco de Mayo Block Party with Mezon in Danbury! Stop by from 4-8 for a cocktail contest, a live DJ and music, outdoor seating, dancing, games, $5 plates and drinks, and more.

5/5 The Spread, SoNo: starting at 4:30, The Spread will be pouring $5 drinks, brews, and shots and will have $24 Azunia Tequila Flights. Chef Carlos Baez will have some specials that night, too, that highlight his Mexican roots and show off some tasty creations inspired by his family’s taqueria.

Mother’s Day

Bar Sugo, SoNo: Treat your mom to some killer Italian food from Chef Pat Pascarella. He’ll be serving up brunch from 10-3 and will also have dinner available from 3-9. Help your mom forget all the bad things that you’ve done in your life by getting her toasted with $15 unlimited Bloody Marys or Mimosas or 1/2 price wines! Eos, Stamford: our favorite Greek restaurant in the 203 will not only have their regular menu available, but will also feature food and drink specials. Get your reservations by calling them up at (203) 569-6250.

Ginger Man, Greenwich: call ’em up at (203) 861-6400 to get your reservations for brunch. They’ll have not only their regular menu, but will also have a few drink and food specials.

Match, SoNo: Chef Matt Storch has a great brunch menu planned for you with a ton of great drinks. Want his famous Carpetbaggers? Got ’em! Want  Smoked Salmon & Caviar Pizza? Got ’em! Want Brioche French Toast w/ Foie Gras? Got ’em! 

Morello Bistro, Greenwich: in addition to their regular menu, they will also have some specials so you can treat your mom right!

Rizzuto’s, Westport: there will be a brunch buffet from 10:30-4 that comes with an entrée for $35/adults or $17 for kids 5-12. Dinner goes from 4-9 and will be served up a la carte and will also feature seasonal specials.

Roger Sherman Inn, New Canaan: from 12-6, check out the beautiful Roger Sherman Inn. There will be a three course dinner for $70 with dishes like Poached Hen Egg, Sheep’s Milk Ricotta Ravioli, Stuffed Pork Chop, and Strawberries & Rhubarb. Strada 18, SoNo: brunch is gonna be awesome with mom with a oyster or clam specials, Tuna Carpaccio, Lobster Salad, and desserts like Lavender Creme Brûlée. Deets here.

Washington Prime, SoNo: for $49.95 per person and kids at $19.99, you’ll get your first Mimosa, Bloody Mary, or Moscow Mule for free along with the full W+P buffet that includes prime rib, smoked salmon station, breakfast goodies, pastries, desserts, sushi, crudo, and even a ceviche bar.

    Sorry to burst your bubble guys. Was just at Washington Prime last night and asked for a Mint Julep in anticipation of Kentucky Derby weekend. Two waiters came over to ask me to repeat what I ordered because they never heard of a Mint Julep. Hope they learn before this weekend…..
