Part of The NYC Wing-Off crew stopped at Colony Grill Stamford after a day of eating countless hot wings.
People went crazy when they learned that the new Waypointe District development of apartments, restaurants, and retail space would have a Grimaldi’s Brooklyn Pizza joint. They ranted, they raved, they dreamed of that pizza . . . and of course there were people who weren’t impressed. Some say New Haven style pies are king, or that other NYC pizza joints are where it’s at.
But, it appears that it’s all for naught for Grimaldi’s in their plan to invade the hearts and minds of Norwalk residents at the Waypointe District. We do have a feeling, though, that they will show up somewhere else nearby, too . . . we’ll have to see. What led to this was a bombshell of an announcement today from Colony Grill who said that they will be opening up a spot at 515 West Avenue. Could this, perhaps, be the spot that Grimaldi’s was going to take? Or, perhaps is Grimaldi’s still in the market for somewhere on the piazza with the pizza? We reached out to Grimaldi’s and Waypointe regarding this, but we haven’t heard back from them yet. We’ll let you know what we find out when we hear back.
But, in the meantime, you can also look forward to Barcelona and Sedona Taphouse. There has also been off and on talk about getting a Bonefish Grill in. One thing’s clear, we’re damn happy to see another Colony Grill coming into Fairfield County. They were recently given some major props from Playboy Magazine and are constantly being found at the top of pizza lover’s lists . . . and ours, too.
Yours in noming,
Dan and Kristien
I’ve never been to any of the “expansion team” Colony Grills. I’ve been going to Jimmy & Bobo’s in Stamford for over 45 years. I do know that the Frank Pepe’s in Fairfield isn’t quite what you get on Wooster street. So, I don’t know if they (the other Colony’s) come close. I AM a convert of Riko’s however….Why? Because they DELIVER. I’m usually too lazy to schlep down to Myrtle Ave to pick up a pie. Eat in? Colony for sure. Some folks will tell you it’s not the same, but I bet in a blind taste test you’d be hard pressed to know the difference. Call me heretic, call me what you will.

We haven’t been to their expansion spots, either. We’ve heard the Fairfield spot looks very nice. But, we like the old school feel of Stamford!
There definitely are people who love Riko’s, esp. because they do deliver. We had some a few months back at Half Full when we brewed a beer with Jen. It was really good.
