Black Rock Farmers' Market 2015

This Saturday, June 20, marks the second year that The Black Rock Farmer’s Market hits that sweet spot between Fairfield and Bridgeport. Just a primer: BRFM is held every Saturday from 9-1 at the field adjacent to St. Ann Church on 481 Brewster Street all the way up until October 17. And, it’s definitely more than your typical market with special artisan markets on the last Saturday of every month, talks, cooking demos, activities, and more.

Here’s some more info to get you there, week after week:

Opening Day

This Saturday, June 20 is going to be a blast at BRFM! First up, Rick Reyes will be performing and there will be a sweet honey tasting from Red Bee artisan honey from Weston. In addition, there will be an epic Corn Hole Tournament from 4-8 with prizes awarded for the top two teams. To enter, you need to sign up and pay a registration fee of either $35 for 2 players, $5 for kids, or $20 if you’d like to just be a spectator and watch the fun go down. Oh, but it’s not just watching. Spectators and participants get food and drinks provided by Chef Carbone of Barcelona Fairfield!

Lecture Series and Cooking Demos

The interactive side of BRFM begins on June 27 with one of the most inspiring chefs in our fine state: Michel Nischan. He is the former chef who started The Dressing Room with Paul Newman and he’s also the same person who recently was awarded Humanitarian of the Year by the James Beard Foundation. He received this award for his role in making good, healthy, and local food affordable and available for people, regardless of income levels. In addition, Michel Nischan was also one of the founding members of the Westport Farmers’ Market, another market in Fairfield County that highlights and celebrates local food, ingredients, and crafts.
