People tend to look to CT for killer pizza pies and legendary seafood, but we often don’t get enough credit for another of our great strengths: hot dogs. Yup, we’ve got some great spots that are grilling up and frying wieners all day long and it’s great to see that national outlets recognize us. And, although only 2 spots from The Nutmeg State got on The Daily Meal’s “America’s 75 Best Hot Dogs” 2015 list, we landed near the top.
First up at #19 is Rawley’s Drive-In in Fairfield who serves up sizzling deep fried hot dogs. And they’ve gotten the attention of not only a hungry legion of fans, but also some big people in the food biz. Chef Alex Guarnaschelli highlights the dogs at Rawley’s during an episode of The Best Thing I Ever Ate and says that everyone needs to get The Works which includes sauerkraut, back, mustard, and fried onions. Also, local CT resident Martha Stewart has made her love of Rawley’s Drive-In quite clear.
And, a few spots down at #14 is Super Duper Weenie, also in Fairfield. When we lived in Black Rock, we’d come down to Super Duper Weenie at least a few times a month. It was safe to say that we had an addiction and it’s clear from the never-ending orders that lots of others can’t get enough, too. Their dogs never disappoint (don’t you EVER dare ask for ketchup on your dog, though . . . or a Diet Coke) and neither do their condiments. That’s because they are all freshly made right on the spot. Plus, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you to check out the Georgia Red Hot (also available at Rawley’s) because it’s just ah-mazing. And, if you’re a true DDD fan, you might remember that Guy Fieri visited Super Duper Weenie on an episode.
So, there you have it: CT’s two best hot dogs according to The Daily Meal. Did they get it right? Did they miss your favorite? Let us know and make sure to check out the complete list.
