Being Nutmeggers, we’re pretty confident when it comes to trains and specifically Metro North. We’ve popped open some brews while heading back to Fairfield County from NYC, we’ve taken bites of dirty water dogs and slices of pizza that threaten to burn the roof of your mouth off, and maybe we’ve taken some flask swigs to take the edge off (What, you never did that?) Whatever you’ve eaten or drank, we can bet you haven’t had a train experience like the Essex Clipper Dinner Train!
You’ll pick up your vintage diesel train at The Essex Station then head off on a 2 1/2 hour chill voyage through the Connecticut River Valley while enjoying a four course meal in a 1920’s Pullman Diner car. For this week, the train will be operating on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Then, starting next week, it will operate every Saturday night until October 24. If you’re going on a Friday or Saturday adventure, they board the train at 6:30 and leave at 7 or if you’re going Sunday, they board at 3:30 then leave at 4. Tickets are $80 per person and that includes tax as well as tea and coffee during your trip. For your drinking pleasure, there’s also a cash bar available, so if you’re up for some drinks (and who isn’t?) then you can certainly imbibe.
