When we go out to a restaurant and there are Buffalo wings on the menu, we order them 99% of them time. And, could you really blame us? Whether they are traditional or have a fun twist to them, we just can’t get enough. But, there are some rules for us. No matter what, the wings need to have a nice and crispy skin with a juicy, meaty center. It seems simple, but a good wing is hard to find.

But, we’ve got a new spot that we’re going to have to check out: Hot Rod Café in New London. They recently hit up the National Buffalo Wing Festival (there were 70,000 attendees!) to compete in the Traditional Medium Buffalo Wing Sauce category where 30 other saucy and stellar restaurants from across the country brought their A game. And, by the end of the competition, Hot Rod Cafe had finished in second place and took home the trophy. When asked about the win, owner Rod Cornish had this to share: “To take second place in the biggest wing competition in the country is such a huge honor for us. We are so proud to have represented New London and brought home this great win, not just for our restaurant but for our city,” he said.

About Hot Rod Café
Hot Rod Café opened in New London in December of 2005. At the start, only five varieties of wings were available.  In 2010, the restaurant moved to its current location at 114 Bank Street, boasting a spacious dining room and a water front deck, which led to an increase in sales and popularity. Hot Rod Café is now in its 10th year of business and recently won first place in three categories of The Day Papers 2015 Readers for Best Wings, Best Sports Bar and Best Bar Food.  Owner Rod Cornish credits his excellent staff and faithful customers around for the continued success.  Visit www.hotrodscafenewlondon.com for more information.
