We love our drinks in all shapes and sizes, but we have a real weakness for drinks that make us feel like kids again. Case in point: The Spicy Mango Granita from Marcia Selden Catering. It looks like an icee, but you won’t find this bad boy at your local convenience store. Nope, this super easy to make, freeze, and serve frozen drink will have you doing sweet and spicy loops all day. Perfect for any party or, do we dare say, any super party? And, while the recipe doesn’t call for any liquor, a nice shot or two (or three) of tequila or mezcal just might do the trick.
Ingredients
4 C ripe Mango, cubed and peeled
2 T Sugar
2 C fresh Orange Juice
8 T fresh Lime Juice
½ t Cayenne Pepper
Pinch of Sea Salt
5 C Water
Directions
Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand 10 minutes. Pour mixture into a blender and process until smooth. Strain through a sieve over a bowl and discard solids. Pour into an 11 x 17 inch baking dish and place in the freezer. After 30 minutes, scrape with a fork and keep in the freezer. Repeat, scraping with a fork until completely frozen (time depends on how cold your freezer is). Remove from the freezer and scrape with a fork until fluffy.
We garnished ours with a sprinkle of chili powder and dried mango. Wait till you taste this deliciousness!
