Just some of the reality show clients from Twin Talents

•••

There’s another new TV show for a major network (we can’t say which) that is casting here in the Greater Stamford/Connecticut are and it’s called “Party Masters.”  While this might not be the final name of the show, the spirit of the show fits in well with the name.  They are looking for families that love to throw parties.  The winning family will be pitted against another winning family to see who can throw the most awesome party in the world!  To beef it up and add some incentive, they are giving each family $50,000 so they can really throw a party to remember.  You might be a great family to enter if:

1) You throw parties that somehow end up on YouTube and become viral hits.

2) You throw wild surprise parties that last all night or for days.

3) You go hog wild at your backyard bbqs and they become legen…wait for it…dary.

4) Your theme nights are so intricate and involved that people forget that they aren’t in the Roaring 20’s or that they really aren’t mobsters.

Local alternative spot for MYO Burritos and Tacos @ Tomatillo Taco Joint – Greenwich, CT

5 Jan

When you feel the need to feed your burrito greed, there’s not much you can do to ignore it.  See, it’s almost like a monster takes over and you become a singular, solitary force hellbent on finding that one perfect burrito or taco that is destined to make things better. Luckily, there are lots of burritos chains in the area you can hit up, but being good little local food bloggers, we’re always on the hunt for local joints vs. chains.

So, given that, we were thrilled to find that there was a local place on Seamless.com, Tomatillo Taco Joint, that delivered to our new place in Greenwich!  What’s great about the Seamless interface for ordering delivery is that you’re able to add whatever you’d like to the burrito or taco of your choice…oh, and we did.  Yes, we did.

DSC_0048_2For our first experience, we both ordered burritos with guac and chips.  Within about 20 minutes the food was at our door, piping hot.  The bag was pretty heavy so we knew that we were in for quite an experience. The burritos are immensely huge here.  We placed a can of Fireside Chat by 21st Ammendment Brewery next to it so you could get a nice comparison. As you can see, they are bigger than the ones you get at places like Chipotle, Sierra Grill or Moe’s.

Drink Up and Man Up! Fall Ball 2012 at Stepping Stones to Benefit Community Plates

19 Sep

Back in June, we shared the ever-expanding mission of Community Plates with you.  Here’s some of what we shared:

It all started back in January, 2011, when Community Plates began.  They would drive to local restaurants, bakeries, caterers, supermarkets, and grocers to gather food that would have been wasted.  With that food, they would make deliveries to soup kitchens, pantries, and other places that provide food for the needy.  Since then, they have grown in immense ways.  According to a recent press release sent to us, they have rescued over 600,000 lbs. of food, have over 200 volunteers in Fairfield County, rescue food from 23 donors, and deliver to 15 different agencies.

With Kevin Mullins, who is the co-founder and Executive Director, at the helm, they have taken their mission and have brought it to other states, too.  They began work in Albuquerque in January, Columbus in April, and by the end of the year they will add another location.  For 2013, they plan to expand to six more places, too.  So, adding up all the numbers, they have 300 volunteers, 40 food donors, and they deliver to 30 agencies.

Ruff summer? Cool down at Bliss Ice Cream and help raise money for PAWS – Cos Cob, CT

16 Jul

Don’t you dare think about not stopping by Bliss to help PAWS. There will be a massive licking if you don’t comply! -Maynard Del Ferraro

Can’t stand the heat, can ya?  Well, we’ve got a way for you and even your doggy to cool off and help the animals of PAWS. Just stop by Bliss Ice Cream at 551 East Putnam Avenue in Greenwich from today until this Sunday, 7/23, order some goodies, and they’ll donate 20% of their sales to PAWS.  This is all you have to do:  go to the PAWS homepage, print it out, then take it with you.  Order your ice cream, doggy ice cream, gelato, sorbet, froyo, sundaes, shakes, or even Dippin’ Dots, present the coupon and you’ve done your good deed for the week.

When PAWS told us about this, we knew that we’d have to find out more info, especially about the offerings at Bliss.  Lucky for us, we were able to talk with the owner, Ed Fonseca.  He opened Bliss back in September of 2011 and has been doing quite well.  Here’s why:  fresh gelato, sorbet, and froyo that’s made by them just for you.  They also have ice cream that’s made for them in small batches by a local farm in Connecticut.  Keeping it real, keeping it local.  Love that.

First off, have your dog try one of the special ice cream flavors put together by Ed himself that are just 3 for $1.  They are in the shape of little doggy bones for easy noming.

• Biscuits and cream

• Peanut butter and banana smoothie

They are also offering 5 different ice cream flavors on a rotating daily basis with anywhere from 15-16 other flavors in the take home freezer.  One of their most popular flavors is…

• Black raspberry truffle (with nice big chocolate chunks, om nom nom nom)

Like their ice cream, their gelato is also given on a rotating basis.  Some of the flavors that you can expect to love:

• Nutella

• Amaretto

• Banana cream

• Hazelnut

They also have a great selection of sorbets to chill down to.  Just two of the flavors

• Blood orange raspberry

• Lemon

And, for those of you who are watching your petite waists, they’ve got some great nonfat frozen yogurt selections, too:

• Peanut butter swirl

• Peach
