2016 Most Innovative Chefs @ Greeenwich Wine + Food Festival Named!

1 Jun

For us, our favorite part of the Greenwich Wine + Food Festival is always Friday night where the best chefs from Fairfield and Westchester Counties come together to pump out their signature dishes. Plus, we love it because there is plenty of beer and wine . . .  and The Bacon Brothers! And, at this year’s Master Chef Dinner on 9/23, it’s only going to get better! Just look at the talent here:

  • Mogan Anthony, Village Social, Mount Kisco, NY
  • Carl Carrion, Cask Republic, South Norwalk, CT
  • Albert DeAngelis, Eastend, Greenwich, CT
  • Constantine Kalandranis, 273 Kitchen, Harrison, NY
  • Michael Kaphan, Purdy’s Farmer & The Fish, Salem, NY
  • Geoff Lazlo, Mill Street Bar & Table, Greenwich, CT
  • Brian Lewis, The Cottage, Westport, CT
  • Tony Pham, Mecha Noodle Bar, South Norwalk, CT
  • Robin Selden, Marcia Selden Catering & Event Planning, Stamford, CT
  • Bobby Will, Saltaire Oyster Bar, Port Chester, NY

You can also look forward to last year’s Most Innovative Chefs (now Ambassador Chefs) pairing up with different chefs on this night. For more about this event and the other events happening at the festival this year, check out recent post!

Back 40 Kitchen Makes List of Travel + Leisure Best Farm-to-table Restaurants!

12 May

Can we say how excited we are to see that Back 40 Kitchen in Greenwich was selected by Travel + Leisure as the best Farm-to-table restaurant in CT? They truly embody what farm-to-table is all about: they have their own farm, they use local ingredients in the food and drinks, and they cook from scratch. It’s no small feat to put that much care and attention into the food.

To read more, click here or here to see the winner from each state. When you do, you might notice that we were quoted by Travel + Leisure! It was an honor to be mentioned and to be asked for our input and thoughts as trusted local bloggers about our favorite spots. Travel + Leisure combed through hundreds of blogs, magazines, and local sources to find the best experts and it was a nice acknowledgment to be a part of this experience.

Congratulations to everyone at Back 40 Kitchen! When you stop by or make a reservation, make sure to mention that we sent you. :)

Free pizza? Free pizza! Yes, it’s true! Just stop by Steven Fox Jewelry at 8 Lewis Street from 11-4 on May 7 for free pizza. Oh, but not any pizza: we’re talking about New Haven Pizza Truck. While you take a seat and enjoy some slices courtesy of Steven Fox Jewelry, you can learn about Kids in Crisis, an organization that we care deeply about. If you remember from a previous post from us, they had almost a million dollars cut from their budget. Then, if you’d like to, you can donate money to their organization to help them fill in the funding gap that is left.  Continue reading

Z Hospitality Group (you know them in Greenwich as Terra, Mediterraneo, and now EASTEND) has been raising money year after year for the Greenwich United Way. In fact, they have been giving a portion of their proceeds to this important charity since 2006! In that time they have raised over $20,000! That money will help GUW to identify, address, and fund critical human service needs in the community. This list that shows what they’ve done since their existence is pretty amazing.  Continue reading

May the 4th be with you . . . especially if you’re heading to Food for All, the annual fundraiser event for Community Plates. The night begins at 6:30 and goes until 9 at Abigail Kirsch at The Loading Dock in Stamford. Tickets are $100 or $75 if you buy a group of 6 or more together at once. When you wanna be good, go to b.good Greenwich

3 Mar

Sometimes you just need to hit that restart button on your diet. . . especially, oh say, after a deeply gluttonous vacation in Lake Placid and Vermont jam packed with beer, bourbon, bbq, burgers, Bloody Marys and bacon. Luckily, there’s b.good a couple of miles from us, which makes it easy for us to be good after our trip . . . especially when they have delivery. BOOM! Continue reading

How beautiful is this spread? Wanna learn how to slice up, arrange, and source something like this? DONE! (Pic from Fleishers site)

Charcuterie. It’s hard not to love delicately sliced meat, especially when it’s put out all nice and pretty on a platter with some fine cheeses. But, really, we’ve been spelling it for years but still can’t manage to get it right all the time. We’re getting better, though, and think we’ve finally found the secret.

But, we digress. Fleishers Greenwich knows charcuterie . . . and they know it so well. Just take a look at their display case and you’ll see amazing meats that not only are full of flavor, but are also sustainably and organically procured. Well, lucky for you because they are putting together  a Charcuterie class next Thursdays, 12/17, from 7-9. Continue reading
