1 Sep
Sure, on the weekend of October 25 (12-10) & 26 (11-8) you could go to any ‘ole Halloween party and get some candy, chips, and if you’re lucky a cute little cupcake with a gummy worm on top… or you could go to the Westfield Mall in Meriden and hit up the Meriden Food Truck Fest where you can stuff your face with fantastic food from an estimated 40 food trucks. With both trucks AND treats, there’s no excuse not to go…

But OmNom, the best part of Halloween parties is we can dress up in slutty, errr, I mean scary, costumes!
Fret not our friends, the Meriden Food Truck Festival has you covered. They WANT you to come dressed in your best costume and they’ll have a professional photographer booth set up so you can show it off.

Insider’s Look at NEAT of Westport: Part Cafe, Part Cocktail Bar, 100% Awesome

7 Jul
Uppers and downers all in one spot!

Uppers and downers all in one spot!

Espresso NEAT has built a reputation in Fairfield County as being at the top of their game.  Year after year, they’ve been awarded best cafe and best coffee, and after you’ve gone there, you can see why.  Owner Rachel Haughey and her crew pick their coffee beans with care and perform routine coffee cuppings to ensure that only the best quality coffee will be served at their Darien hotspot.  And, that quality comes through big time.  Add in their other options like tea, espresso, coffee, salads, snacks, breakfast goodies, and sandwiches, and you’ve got the perfect spot to hang out or grab a quick bite.

So, to Rachel, it was only natural to take Espresso NEAT into the next phase of evolution by opening up a brand new restaurant that was part cafe and part cocktail bar.  The new venture, NEAT, will open up in the National Hall Campus in Westport in early August.  Working with Rachel in this venture will be owner of Experience Hospitality, Bobby Werhane, and Managing Director Kevin Daniel Lalumiere. Both Bobby and Kevin are locals, too, with Bobby coming from Westport and Kevin from Fairfield.  Kevin and Bobby unite Rachel’s expertise and cafe experience with an amazing resume of bars, restaurants, and shops.  The team at Experience Hospitality helped to bring some amazing restaurants into NYC like Spasso, dell’animaL’artusi, and Johnny Utah’s, adding an even more rounded background to the structure of NEAT.

Burger month?  Pssshh, what Bounty Food Truck and its three owners have in store for you will make every single day burger day and have you quivering, falling to your knees in praise of the burger gods.  This, all from a brand new food truck that’s just entered into its first full-time week traveling around Westport.  The owners, James Edkins, Chris Vacca, and Christiaan Rizy, all from the Westport/Wilton area, are ready to make your mornings, days, and maybe even nights a little better.

The Chef:  Chris Vacca

Like any great food truck, it all starts with a talented chef who’s manning the grill, coming up with great menu choices, and pumps out awesome food quickly.  And, you could say Chef Chris Vacca has been around the kitchen a bit…22 years, actually.  Not only is he a graduate of the CIA, he has also traveled the world, and worked in culinary meccas like NYC (Park Avenue Cafe, Le Madri, Il Toscanaccio), Napa (Cantinetta Piero), Italy (Antica Trattoria San Lorenzo), and other European spots like Switzerland (Giradet), and he also owns Trevi Trattoria in Wantagh, NY.  He has worked at Michelin-starred restaurants and also has local connections, recently consulting at Zaza in Scarsdale and 323 Restaurant in Westport.  By his side are James Edkins and Christiaan Rizy who help run the food truck, offer up guidance, resources, business planning, organization, and help in growing the food truck into an even more successful business.  Bounty Food Truck all began because they loved seeing the mobile food truck scene thriving in NY and thought, hey, we can do that.  And do that they are…

Burgers and Half Priced Drafts @ City Limits Diner – Stamford, CT

12 May
Look what's on tap...

Look what’s on tap…

One of our go-to destinations when we’re looking for a quick bite or want to stop at a diner when we’re in Stamford is City Limits.  It’s the fanciest diner that we can think of, but they also throw down some great food, much made from scratch.  Depending on his mood, Dan might order one of their tried-and-true breakfast items, or he just might go for the Italian Burger:  piled with pancetta, onions, housemade smoked mozzarella, and with a nice portion of crispy french fries.  Don’t judge, he can have breakfast any way that he wants.

Clear your calendars for the third installment of Bethel Restaurant Week, this year running from February 23 through March 1.  Like other restaurant weeks, you’ll be served a three course lunch or dinner at set price decided by the restaurant, but this one’s a bit different.  You’ll actually be able to get breakfast at some of these places, that’s an option that’s not usually offered, and there are lots of deals like BOGOs and discounts.   And, another exciting thing for us about Bethel Restaurant Week is the amazing selection of places that our friends and readers have told us about that we need to try STAT.  So, here’s a nice little guide for you.

Starting off, there are  4 basic price levels for Lunch/Dinner:  $5/$10, $10/15, $15/$25, or $20/$35.  Without further ado, fine gents and ladies, here are the restaurants with links to their Restaurant Week menus (some haven’t been updated yet).

13 Feb
David Cingari and Mayor Finch make it official on Feb 12 (photo from David's Soundview Catering)

David Cingari and Mayor Finch make it official on Feb 12 at the Cafe 1000 Grand Opening party!  Just a note:  not sure we can trust him with scissors that big!  Eeek.  (all photos from David’s Soundview Catering)

David Cingari is. the. man.  He’s a graduate of not only New Haven Hotel & Restaurant Management, but also of the Culinary Institute of America.  On a personal level, he is probably one of the nicest and most hilarious guys that you’ll ever met, and he’s also the proud owner and Head Chef of David’s Soundview Catering in Stamford.  We got to know him and the DSC crew at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center’s Maple Sugar Chef’s Challenge, and at many charitable events that they support and help organize.  Needless to say, when it comes to awesome food like their redonkulous taco bar that we tasted at Fine Food for a Cause, they’ve got it all under control.  And, with over 25 years under their belts, David’s Soundview Catering has garnered an excellent reputation, becoming a staple in the community.

Stamford…and now Bridgeport

Well, we’ve got some great news to share with you:  David’s expanded a bit out of Stamford with the recent addition (opened 5 weeks ago) of Cafe 1000.  His idea for this brand new restaurant?  Offer up some great, high quality breakfast and lunch options for the good people of Bridgeport.  The area they moved into (the ground floor at 1000 Lafayette Street) will soon house over 600 new apartment units, is close to 95, the train, and even the waterfront.  Plus, Bridgeport is a great and growing alternative for young professionals with costs noticeably more affordable than Stamford.

Our good buddies at Eat for Equity are back in 2014, now making great meals and raising lots of money for local charities for over a year.  This time around they’ll be making a from-scratch meal with lots of local love at Franklin Street Works in Downtown Stamford.  There is never any charge to come in and take part in Eat for Equity events, but donations of $15-20 are encouraged.  And, this time around, the money donated will go right to Franklin Street Works, a fun art gallery that has thematic and rotating art exhibitions from various artists…and also a cafe.

Croissant? Bagel? No, Crogel: Stew Leonard’s Newest Hybrid Goodie

16 Jan

It has been scientifically proven that when you mix anything with a croissant and buttery goodness that it instantly becomes amazeballs.  Take delicate and thin layers of buttery dough and turn it into a donut?  Sure!  Or, how about you take those beautiful layers of heart-wrenching yumminess and put it in the form of a bagel?  Ummmm, duh!
