From Trash to Treasure: the Food Trucks at Elephant’s Trunk Flea Market

Considering Kristien’s obsession with all things HGTV, it’s a surprise it took us so long to get to the Elephant’s Trunk Country Flea Market. This massive market every Sunday in New Milford features antiques, rare finds, farm stands, and anything you’d need to furnish a home. Sure, you have to rummage through some trash to get to the treasures, but that’s part of the fun. In fact, there are so many food trucks at this flea market every Sunday, they sort of work the same way. They have lots of smaller carts and stands serving up hot dogs, lemonade, Italian ices, and breakfast sandwiches that could be hidden treasures, and they have some of the food trucks we’re all heard of that might not be as much of a treasure as you’d hoped. So we’re going to break down our trash and treasure food truck finds for you so you don’t have to rummage. We got your back!

Thou desireth roll of lobster? Quench thy famishment.

After their inaugural food truck festival last year, the Race Brook School Food Truck Festival is back and bigger than before (15 last year)! All you have to do is come by the Orange Country Fairgrounds from 4-8 on May 22 with some dinero and a massive appetite! That’s because there is a crazy amount of food trucks that will be there!  Just look at this list:

The Daffodil Festival in Meriden has quickly become one of the most anticipated festivals all-year long and marks the start of beautiful, warmer weather. This year the 37th festival goes down at Hubbard Park on 4/25 from 10-9 and 4/26 from 10-5. There will be a non-profit food tent for all your nomming needs, arts and crafts, a boutique, children’s rides, plenty of live bands, a parade, and fireworks on Saturday night. We’ve included a full schedule at the end of the post for you.

Chocolate, Wine & Food Lovers Evening 2015 Sweet Deets + Ticket Giveaway

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and, you know what that means: yup, time for the annual Chocolate, Wine, & Food Lovers Evening! This year it’s going down on 2/5 from 6-9 at The Marriott Hotel & Spa in Stamford. This event has been held as a way to not only help people find the best drinks, food, and desserts in Fairfield County, but to also give attendees a chance to pick up some great gifts at the Valentine Boutique or via silent auctions. But, the real heart of the event is the cause: 100% of the proceeds go directly to Shelter for the Homeless, a Stamford-based organizaton that serves Lower Fairfield County by “[P]roviding temporary housing to homeless men, striving to obtain permanent supportive housing and services for men and women tailored  to meet their relevant needs, and empowering people to help themselves achieve their greatest level of self-sufficiency.”

Last year was so much fun, we talked with so many great people, ate so much great food and tried out so many new restaurants, drinks, chocolates, and cupcakes that it was well worth it. The 2014 OmNomys: Celebrating the Best in Food in Fairfield County

Well, here we are, already at the end of 2014. Man, how time flies. But fret not friends, because the end of another year means another celebration of the best of the best in Fairfield County. That’s right, it’s time for the 4th Annual OmNomys! By now most of you know how this works, but for those of you new here, this is a list of the best that we’ve experienced in 2014… NOT necessarily the best EVER in Fairfield County. If your favorite spot or food didn’t make it on here, maybe it was on our list back in 2011, 2012, or 2013… and if not, let us know so we can check it out in 2015!

With not one, but two fireplaces, Cask Republic has a warm, rustic, and down-homey kind of vibe going on. It’s hard to think of a chill spot with more class. It’s the perfect place to meet up with friends, have some drinks (from which there are many to choose), and try out some great gastropub grub.

So…remember when we wrote about the Meriden Food Truck Festival going down October 25 +26 just a few hours ago?  Yeah…well, we’ve got another one to share with ya, this happening much sooner (9/18 from 4-8) at the Shelton River Walk:  Food Trucks in the Valley!  This feast by the river is being hosted by The Lower Naugatuck Valley Parent Child Resource Center and will help to raise vital funding for them that will go towards programs and services such as helping people who have undergone severe trauma, abuse, or neglect.
