Chocolate Dessert and Wine Lovers Evening Stamford 2014

You know it’s just about Valentine’s Day when you start to hear about the annual Chocolate, Dessert, & Wine Lover’s Evening that benefits the Shelter for the Homeless in Stamford.

Woah woah woah…you just said three of my favorite words.  All three of those together in one massively awesome event? Wait, tell me more!

Okay, sure:

First up, it all goes down on 2/6/14 from 6-9 pm at the Stamford Marriott and tickets are $50 in advance (purchase them here) or $60 after February 3.  Good news, too:  100% of the tickets sold go directly to the Shelter for the Homeless.  This annual event is always a major fundraiser and with the crazy temperatures we’ve been experiencing lately, those without a home need the help even more.

Local Dr. Creates Gelato with Longford’s to Raise Money for American Heart Association at Stamford ShopRite

17 Oct

Dr. Doolittle.

Dr. Spock.

Dr. Oz.

Dr. Dre.

Sure, they’re all amazing people, but we’d like you to meet someone even more awesome:  Dr. Marc Brodsky.  Dr. Brodsky works at Stamford Hospital and was the organizer of the Chile Pepper Festival that we told you about this September.

So, why is this mild-mannered doctor so amazing?  Maybe it’s because he’s part scientist, maybe it’s because he’s developed his own gelato recipe…or maybe it’s even because he’s taken that recipe and teamed up with Longford’s Own-made Ice Cream and ShopRite to raise money for the American Heart Association?  Yeah, it’s all of those—that’s the correct answer.  Dr. Brodsky’s recipe produced by Longford’s will be on sale at the 1900 West Main ShopRite in Stamford on 10/19 from 10:30-2:30.  All of the proceeds will go towards the American Heart Association, too.

So, how did all of this begin?

Stamford Summer Restaurant Weeks Goes Local w/ Farm Fare

7 Aug

Hand it to Stamford Tables and the local restaurant community to change up their popular restaurant weeks.  It’s not that they’re not working, it’s that they want to constantly make them better every single time.  Some of the great additions have been turning the experience into weeks (not just a week), Stamford Hospital’s Kids Fans’ 5-2-1-0 program that gives healthy food options for kids at participating restaurants.  We all try to be one of the first 3,000 restaurant week nom-ers because we know that we get a voucher for a small popcorn from the Avon with any movie ticket purchase.  And this year, from August 19 – September 2, a bunch of the restaurants are going local with their menu, highlighting produce from local farms.  We’re talking about Hubbard Heights Farm, Stamford Museum & Nature Center, Domus, and the Green Up Group!  Restaurants participating in the local farm food program are noted below with an  and those participating in the 5-2-1-0 program (kids 12 and under are $6.95 or $9.95 for a healthy lunch) have an *.

So, please check back as we add more 2013 Stamford Summer Restaurant Weeks menus and why not set up reservations now?  Just do it, trust us, this is a busy time of year and tables go fast.

You’ll Long for Longford’s Sweet Shop + Creamery – Reopened in Old Greenwich

Caramel Swirl Cone at Longford’s Ice Cream (both pics from a press release)

Summer with no ice cream is like peanut butter with no jelly, like Milli without Vanilli, like black without white, like dogs without bones, like fish without water, even like Om without Nom.  Yeah, look…it just doesn’t work.  All summer long is ice cream weather, and in our case it’s really just a year round activity…we’re not seasonally biased at all.  But, at the newly reopened and retooled Longford’s Own-Made Ice Cream in Old Greenwich, you just might need to stop by all year round, too.  We’re talking about ice cream, sorbet, gelato, LoYo, and their brand new addition:  a sweet shop.

Pork in the Park BBQ and Food Festival Piggifies the New Mill River Park in Stamford

17 Jun

Bob LeRose can’t seem to sit still or remain inactive.  He first brought Bobby Q’s to Westport and quickly stacked up awards, smoking out the competition at contest after contest.  From there, he organized and built up one of the best events in the state:  Blues, Views & BBQ.  Then, Bobby took BBQ in Fairfield County in a whole new direction with the creation of Bar Q, tapas style BBQ in Downtown Stamford.  And, just recently, he opened up Bobby Q’s Pit Stop in Old Greenwich with his cousin Joey Boucher, serving up BBQ, burgers, chili, and dogs.

For the average, ordinary person that might be too much to handle in just a few years, but we’re not talking about anyone average.  We’re talking about Bob LeRose, whose veins run rampant with BBQ sauce.  He’s taken it to an all new level now with the creation of the first ever Pork in the Park, happening July 13 (11-8 pm) + 14 (11-6 pm) in the brand new Mill River Park in Stamford.  You can think of Pork in the Park as a similar kind of experience to Blues, Views & BBQ, but Bob shared with us that this festival will have a stronger focus on food.  And, a portion of money made from the event is going directly to help the Mayor’s Youth Employment Program and the Mill River Collaborative.  Here are the details that Bob shared with us:

Stamford ArtWalk Map 2013

Stamford ArtWalk Map 2013…click through for a zoomed in view

There’s always something great going on in Downtown Stamford, ya know?  Whether it’s restaurant weeks, charity events, their yearly outdoor sculpture exhibitions (this year it’s “Downtown Abstractions”), Santa gliding down a building, or Alive @ Five, Downtown Stamford is the place to be.  And, now we have another reason to love Stamford:  the first ever ARTWALK that’s starting Friday (6/14) and goes into Saturday, 6/15.  ARTWALK 2013 will feature 95 artists from the Northeast who are presenting their art in various styles and mediums.  This weekend event is free to the public and if you’d like a copy of this map, just register at the ARTWALK booth on Spring Street.  Time it perfectly by going to the opening celebration on 6/14 @ 5 pm, have some refreshments, and join many of the artists, gallery owners, local business owners, and restaurateurs…then pick up the map!

Most of that art that’s on display will remain up for viewing at restaurants and businesses until July 7, so even if you can’t make this event, you’ll have another chance for viewing.  Plus, if you really love something, you can purchase it!  In addition, there are special events (full list here) and exhibits up for you to check out:
