Charcuterie. It’s hard not to love delicately sliced meat, especially when it’s put out all nice and pretty on a platter with some fine cheeses. But, really, we’ve been spelling it for years but still can’t manage to get it right all the time. We’re getting better, though, and think we’ve finally found the secret. 

But, we digress. Fleishers Greenwich knows charcuterie . . . and they know it so well. Just take a look at their display case and you’ll see amazing meats that not only are full of flavor, but are also sustainably and organically procured. Finally, after a tiny hibernation, the Westport Farmers’ Market is back! This not only marks a decade of back to back warm-air markets, but it also highlights their focus on keeping things local. It all began back in June 2006 when Paul Newman and Michel Nischan (he just received a James Beard Award for Humanitarian of the Year last night) started Westport Farmers’ Market.

When we went to Barcelona a few years ago, we checked out La Boqueria. It was an amazing experience with fresh food, veggies, and fruits that seemingly went on for miles aisle after aisle. And, mixed in around the mercado were restaurants that specialized in foods like pizza, empanadas, coffee, fresh squeezed jugos, seafood, and more. Well, Barcelona is a bit far to travel for that kind of experience, but checking out Mercado on March 1 isn’t so tough.

2014 has been a great year for CT beer. There have been many brewery expansions, openings of new breweries, and breweries that have been working hard on opening a place of their own. Plus, not for nothing, but this is CT’s 2nd beer week in a year! The first was from May 12-18 and was designed to coincide with American Craft Beer Week and now we’ve got the 2nd Beer Week going down now from October 13-19.

Fairfield Cheese Company Spreads the Love with Greenwich Cheese Company, Opening Soon

UPDATE: Greenwich Cheese Company will be open on 12/11/14! 

Days and night have we prayed. Dear provider of cheese, meats, spreads, and all things nomworthy…come to us. Heap your love and your provisions upon us. Long have we suffered the cruel deceivingly short distance on 95 from Greenwich to Fairfield, but yeah, our prayers have been answered. Amen, our cheese loving brethren…amen.

Amen because the award-winning and amazing Fairfield Cheese Company is expanding into Greenwich! Yup, the same shop that pulled in a top five spot of places to buy cheese in America from Food & Wine and a back-to-back winner of CT Magazine’s Best Cheese Selection. Co-owners Chris Palumbo and Laura Downey’s new shop will be at 154 East Putnam Avenue where the Cos Cob Laundry used to be. It’s also located right next to Fjord Fisheries, so you could get all your seafood, cheese, meat, and goodies shopping done in one trip. And, really, what else could you possibly need?
