12 Aug

Best picture EVER! Photo from New Canaan Chamber of Commerce FB page.

Mark it and mark it well: August 20 is when New Canaan hosts its annual Taste of the Town Stroll. And, while they are still keeping what has made this event a success year after year, they are adding in an awesome new event: the Lobster Roll Battle! To take part, come on down at 5 pm to New Canaan’s popular Pop Up Park. At that time, local New Canaan spots Baldanza, Cava, Fishtails, Fjord Fish Market, and Silvermine Market will compete to see who makes the best lobster roll in New Canaan. The judges are First Selectman Rob Mallozzi III, Executive Director of the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce Tucker Murphy, and Executive Chef of Elm, Luke Venner. Adding some more fun and excitement to all the action will be our buddy, Chef Plum of Plum Luv Foods who will be hosting this culinary battle. Continue reading

South End proposes to expand + take over Picador spot in New Canaan

15 Jan

Earlier in the week, NewCanaanite.com wrote that Nick Martschenko, Executive Chef and owner of South End, was proposing renovations and a new restaurant in place of Picador in New Canaan. They said that, according to building plans submitted to New Canaan, the restaurant would be called South End Uncorked.

We contacted Chef Martschenko regarding this and he told us that everything is still in the preliminary stages, even the name. “I am still developing the concept and decor,” he shared. “Actually, the deal is still not 100%.” He is referring to negotations with the owners of Picador, who currently own the space. This spot in New Canaan has a history of great restaurants like the always-evolving Picador and, of course, the wonderful and much-missed Harvest Supper where we spent many a night eating and drinking.

Spooky Good Halloween Parties and Events in the 203 for 2014

21 Oct

Ah…Halloween. That time of year when it becomes incredibly cold, yet people get dressed up (well, partially dressed up) in their favorite costume. Yes, it’s an excuse to expose body parts that normally aren’t exposed…and it’s a wicked good time to go out and party. Drink, party, eat, and engage in lots of ravenous activities! Well, we thought we’d help you out whether you’re going to dress as Little Red Riding Hood, in an Ebola-safe hazmat suit (a new use for your Breaking Bad costume from last year), as a brooding and sparkly-skinned vampire, a sexy arrow-slinging Katniss, or that bro who just wears a shirt that says “This is my costume.” Yeah, let’s do it:

Brunchmazing at SoNo Baking Company

We are in the process of updating listings for Easter 2015!

*Tweet tweet* Spring has sprung and the smell of brunch is in the air.  Brunch, one of the most awesome meals of the day.  Better than breakfast and better than lunch:  it is a combination of the best of both worlds.  Sweet, savory, eggy, bready, and meaty.  We’re not talking about just any brunch, though…Easter brunch, one of the best dining days of the year.  Well, we hopped from site to site, from e-mail to e-mail, and restaurant to restaurant and found some great spots for brunch.  Make sure to make reservations, though.  If you have a suggestion for a place that we left off, let us know.  We’ll add it for the benefit of all mankind.
