Tavern 489: Warm + Cozy Mountain Lodge Dining Coming to Stamford

24 Feb

Having just come back from winter vacation in Lake Placid where the temperature dropped to -30 (it was so cold our dog couldn’t and wouldn’t poop), then to Vermont to get a ski run in, we can appreciate warm and cozy. Really, there’s nothing like that coming in from the cold kinda feeling. And, while Stamford doesn’t have the rolling Green Mountains or the cascading Adirondacks, it will soon have a new restaurant that picks up that mountain lodge kinda vibe. Continue reading

The Growth, Future, and Success of Kent Falls Brewing: An Interview w/ Barry Labendz

8 Feb

We’ve written about a ton of restaurants, events, breweries, and we’ve tasted hundreds and hundreds of brews, but we seem to get a rare feeling from time to time. It’s the kind of feeling like we’re in the midst of something great. That we’re going to watch something amazing happen. Well, that’s exactly how we felt when we first talked with Barry Labendz of Kent Falls Brewery last February. Just a few weeks later, Dan met up with Barry and Headbrewer Derek Dellinger at Coalhouse Pizza to taste some first sips of their brews. But, it all came together for us and we knew what a big deal this brewery would be when we went by to tour the farm and their brewhouse. Continue reading

Post 154, Dolce Stamford, and Barcelona Norwalk Close; What’s Next for These Restaurants?

20 Jan

Three restaurants in Fairfield County have closed their doors for good or are just about to . . .  but for some, there’s more in store. Starting off, Post 154 in Westport that we reviewed back in September of 2013 suddenly closed for good on Monday. Although not announced on social media, Post 154 left a note on the door announcing the news. We did confirm with a phone call that they are “closed forever,” as we were told. At this time, we don’t know of any plans of relocating or opening a new restaurant. Continue reading

Check and Mate: Bottle Ship Board Game Cafe + Lounge Coming to Stamford

5 Jan

Bottle Ship Cafe is coming to Stamford . . . and we’ve got a feeling you’ll be stopping by at least once a week. What, with over 500 different games available to play and your own personal game guru (don’t worry, we’ll explain), why wouldn’t you? But, it’s not all games . . . though it IS all fun. There will be a nice variety of small bites, finger foods, sandwiches, and salads, as well as craft beer, other adult beverages, and even speciality coffees when those games of Scrabble go extra long. They are planning on opening in early summer 2016 in Harbor Point, so get ready! Hours will be T-Th from 5-late, F-Sa from 12-late, and Sunday from 10-late.

Eat More Chicken: Chick-fil-A Plans to Open in Norwalk

18 Dec

Southern invasion.

According to Robert Koch of The Hour, Chick-fil-A is planning to open a restaurant at 467 Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk. The space will include a drive-thru if you need your chicken sandwich with pickle fix fast or you could sit down to a 126 seat spot. Koch does share that this isn’t a done deal, though, as the Norwalk Zoning Commission’s Plan Review Committee still needs to meet to discuss this on January 14. Let’s hope the fast food gods are in their favor. Continue reading

Acuario, Port Chester Favorite Peruvian Spot, Opens in Stamford

9 Dec

Beautiful! Acuario, days before their opening in Stamford. Pic from Acurio’s FB page.

We can’t ever get enough of Port Chester, ya know? And, while there are always a ton of different restaurants to try, we can’t help but come back to some of the same spots like Acuario. You can find this upscale Peruvian restaurant a few buildings down (163 North Main Street) from Tarry Market, near the start of the downtown area. Continue reading

Noble Jay Brewery Fully Funded on Kickstarter

8 Dec
Noble Jay Brewing Company Logo

Fully funded and ready to dominate! But, hey, you can still contribute and reap some awesome rewards!

Noble Jay Brewery of Niantic has been fully funded on Kickstarter which is no small feat. But, believe it or not, there are still 4 days left in their campaign, so there’s still a chance to get involved and to help fight Maa-Crow” aka macro beer.

Some levels of sponsorship include stickers, a Noble Jay shirt, a mug club membership for a year, or even a lifetime membership! Plus, there are lots of other options like beer glasses, and even a custom charcuterie plate that is prepared for you to pair with beer right at the brewery.

While still in the process of opening, you’ll find Noble Jay at 11 Freedom Way in Niantic. They will have a cozy and quaint tap room with a bar so you can mosey on up and spend some time chilling. You can also look forward to having some food there because local restaurants will have food available, but you can feel free to bring your own, too. Finally, there will always be a “Noble Tap” at the brewery where pours from that line will translate into money donated to a new charity each month.

Good luck to all the great people at Noble Jay! For more info on them, check out our breaking interview with Mike Lincoln that came out nearly a year ago.

The Habanero Express burger with Elk

Okay, so when we are saying that Bareburger Stamford is actually ready to open, we mean it. Now, starting on December 21, we’ll have two Bareburgers in our fine state. Continue reading

A Salute to Geoffrey Zakarian’s The National – Greenwich, CT (Review)

28 Nov

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

When we interviewed Chef Geoffrey Zakarian back in September about his new restaurant coming to Greenwich, his confidence, enthusiasm and dedication made us SUPER eager to try it out and see if all that energy translated to an amazing experience. So, when The National finally opened, located at the bottom of The Avenue in Greenwich, we had to get our butts in there STAT to find out. And, like the dedicated food bloggers we are, we hit up Fairfield County’s newest restaurant on Thanksgiving Eve with our friends, John, and Jenn. Because what’s wrong with two days of gluttony in a row, right? Continue reading
