The Habanero Express burger with Elk

Okay, so when we are saying that Bareburger Stamford is actually ready to open, we mean it. Yes, we did write about the expansion of Bareburger into Ridgefield and Stamford back in September of 2013, but things are finally falling into place. Now, starting on December 21, we’ll have two Bareburgers in our fine state. Continue reading

Bowls of Love: Stamford Resident Ali Rakowski’s New Cookbook Will Bowl You Over 49X

24 Nov

It’s hard to think of anything that’s more amazing or more comforting than a hot bowl of soup on a cold, bone-chilling day. It warms your body, and it sure as hell warms your soul. And, that’s exactly what Ali Rakowski of Stamford thought when she put together a brand new cookbook, Bowls of Love, that features 49 soup recipes.

Fairfield Cheese Company Spreads the Love with Greenwich Cheese Company, Opening Soon

29 Aug

UPDATE: Greenwich Cheese Company will be open on 12/11/14!

Days and night have we prayed. Dear provider of cheese, meats, spreads, and all things nomworthy…come to us. Heap your love and your provisions upon us. Long have we suffered the cruel deceivingly short distance on 95 from Greenwich to Fairfield, but yeah, our prayers have been answered. Amen, our cheese loving brethren…amen.

Amen because the award-winning and amazing Fairfield Cheese Company is expanding into Greenwich! Yup, the same shop that pulled in a top five spot of places to buy cheese in America from Food & Wine and a back-to-back winner of CT Magazine’s Best Cheese Selection. Co-owners Chris Palumbo and Laura Downey’s new shop will be at 154 East Putnam Avenue where the Cos Cob Laundry used to be. It’s also located right next to Fjord Fisheries, so you could get all your seafood, cheese, meat, and goodies shopping done in one trip. And, really, what else could you possibly need?

Washington Prime Opening Mid-Summer in new Ironworks SoNo Building

6 Jun

SoNo’s getting a brand new restaurant and it’s called Washington Prime, Eating + Drinking Well.  It will be located in the brand new Ironworks SoNo…a similar set up like Harlan Social in the Harbor Point area of Stamford.

The People Behind Washington Prime

SoNo’s newest restaurant is a team effort with Rob Moss, Marco Siguenza, and Executive Chef Jared Falco.  Starting with Rob, he has been a manager at Match and Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar in Greenwich, and has helped to create cb5 restaurants such as Red Lulu, Lolita, Chinawhite, 30 Boltwood and OAK Longbar & Kitchen.  Marco has some excellent restaurant experience, too.  Like Rob, he has worked at Match, but he also has some other major restaurant cred for helping to open up 55 Degrees in Fairfield and Scena Wine Bar in Darien.  Although he is no longer connected with these restaurants, his cousins continue to run it and Marco starts this new endeavor.

Our new go-to spot + probably yours too: Port Chester Hall + Beer Garden

5 Jun

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Update:  we have been back a few times since our review and we have had mixed results. At times we have good service, at other times service is spotty and slow. During our last visit, the food wasn’t as good as it used to be. The burger, in particular, was bland, mushy, and disappointing while the chicken sandwich was also bland and uninteresting.

Last year when we heard that Heartland Brewery was opening up a new brewery in Port Chester, we darn near jumped for joy. First off, we live just a few minutes away. Secondly, we think that Port Chester is the most underrated place in our area and were psyched for people to show it some love. And thirdly, mmmm, beeeeeeer.

Now, a few months back we got a little worried and upset when we learned that it wasn’t actually going to be a brewery, but our frown got turned upside down when we learned that it would become a beer hall and a beer garden with beer pumped in from Heartland Brewery.  So, when the weather this past Saturday turned out to be beautiful, we knew what we had to do…

Win a Bareburger Gift Card and Sir Kensington’s Condiment 4 Pack

10 Feb

What’s ironic about the name Bareburger is that you’d be crazy to ever order a bare burger there.  What, with all the different kinds of patties like beef, wild boar, ostrich, turkey, fried chicken, lamb, and wild boar, all the different burgers on the menu, or the countless options and toppings in order to make your own Barest Burger, you’d seriously have to be cray cray to order just a patty.

Well, whatever burger, sides, or shakes you order, things just got a bit saucier!  That’s because Bareburger is testing out a new ketchup in 5 select locations: Ridgefield, Park Slope, Chelsea, 73rd Street on the Upper East Side, and their Astoria location.  But, we’re not talking about just any old ketchup.  We’re talking about Sir Kensington’s, a gourmet, all-natural, non-GMO ketchup that some great restaurants like ABC Kitchen, Sarabeth’s, and Spotted Pig in NYC use.  Visit any of these locations, try out Bareburger’s new ketchup, then leave your feedback via comment card.
