OmNomCT Named Local Food Champions by Fresh Nation

9 Oct

Fresh Nation is a new service, based out of Stamford, that pools together local resources to give you a central place to find the best and freshest local food.  Just type in your zip code and you’ll see an amazing list of places to help you keep it local!  And, just a few months ago, they began delivering food from farms, markets and artisan producers right to your door throughout Fairfield County and now parts of Westchester.

Because being local and keeping things in the community matters so much to Fresh Nation, they began a campaign to celebrate Local Food Champions.  These are people who work hard at bringing awareness to good food in our region and who constantly emphasize the idea of keeping things local within our own communities.  We have believed in this for a long time and hopefully you’ve noticed that we often focus on food, producers, and restaurants that highlight the amazing produce, meats, and products that are made here in Fairfield County and Connecticut.  And, to be honest, we’re honored that Fresh Nation would not only recognize this, but also put us up on their list of Local Food Champions that include the CEO and founder of Fresh Nation, Tony Lee, Analiese Paik of Fairfield Green Food Guide, Alicia Ghio of Local Food Rocks and The Natural Princess, and Lisa Corrado of Lisa Corrado Nutrition.

To help keep the community close together, you’ll also be able to visit the Local Food Champions blog feed to keep up to date with what’s going on in Fairfield County and Connecticut.  We’ll all keep you updated on how you can continue to keep it local.

If you’d like to learn more about Fresh Nation, check them out by visiting their site, and if you’d like to learn about their delivery options to Fairfield County and some Westchester County towns, check it out here.

Thanks again Fresh Nation.  We’re blushing.

Taste of Danbury on CityCenter Green is a huge event that gets Danburians (?) and other Fairfield Countiers super excited…but it’s going to be even more redonkulous this year.  Why, you ask?  Well, our friends Chef Plum (Plum Luv Foods) and Alicia Ghio (Natural Princess and Local Food Rocks) will be doing chef demos on the Ives Street stage along with Sarah Caron from Sarah’s Cucina Bella and Jeanette Chen from Jeanette’s Healthy Living.  If you’re looking at the picture above, Chef Plum is the cool dude contemplating bananas and a whisk, Sarah is in the bottom left, Jeanette is in the middle, and the ever so fabulous Alicia is on the right.

Monster margaritas, devilish enchiladas, and ginormous chimichangas w/ CTbites @ Pancho’s Tacos Mexican Restaurant – Danbury, CT

11 Sep

Does Danny have the intestinal fortitude to defeat this monster?

Amy Kundrat at CTbites.com invited us, some friends, and some other awesome bloggers to do a group post on their site for Pancho’s Tacos Mexican Restaurant.  Pancho’s is the spot to be, especially where I work.  We munch and nom away here, sometimes talking over business, and sometimes just to pig out.  First in the article we all wrote, there is Alicia Ghio who runs The Natural Princess and Local Food Rocks.  Add in her husband, Renato who takes awesome pics and video, and you’ve got one of our favorite couples of all time!  Together they run RmediA, a kickass video production company.  You then have our reviews, and we end with Amy.  Amy helps to put CTbites together and also has her own blog, Motoamy.  Click through after reading our first paragraphs and check out the full article at CTbites.

Danny’s Part

The last time I was at Pancho’s was after the Danbury Chalkwalk this past May. That, dear foodies, was a day that will live in infamy for me because I lost the battle of A la Diabla enchiladas.  Though a valiant effort, I couldn’t bust through the second of the third enchiladas.  Ever the champion, I knew what I had to do and I ordered the dish, straight “From the Devil.”

See if he survived A la Diabla.

My Part

Working down the street from Pancho’s at Humongo, I get the luxury of noming here regularly. And while the decor is nothing fancy, it has become our go-to spot for office celebrations and client lunches simply because the food never disappoints. Usually I go straight for the delicious and authentic tacos (Al Pastor being my favorite), but this time I decided to go with the Carne Enchilada Chimichangas.

See how the Carne Enchilada Chimichangas were.
