Cluck Yeah! Mayor Finch Proposes Bridgeporters Can Raise Chickens

Why did the chicken cross Route 1?  I don’t know, it’s kind of congested, but it’s sometimes better than taking 95, but then again, it could be worse because you hit all those traffic lights and then you’re waiting, also, when you sometimes get stuck behind slower drivers, but then again, 95 can be pretty clear at times, too…wait, what was the question?

Yes, back to chickens.  Mayor Finch of Bridgeport has made a decision that hasn’t gone over easy with some Bridgeport residents and has ruffled some feathers of fellow poultry-purist politicians, but has others clucking with excitement.  A recent proposal will allow Bridgeporters to raise up to six hens for the purpose of gathering eggs for personal use.  I suppose if you love them as just pets, that’s fine too…hey, we’re not gonna judge ya.  Roosters, on the other hand, are not allowed.    Must…resist…cock…jokes…

Something Wild This Way Comes: Wine, Beer, + Food Safari Fundraiser at Beardsley Zoo

29 May

Update:  2014 tix are now on sale!

Feeling a little bit wild?  Are you hungry like the wolf?  Parched enough to drink gallons of brews and wine by lapping them up with your tongue?  If this is the case, then we’ve got the perfect event for you:  Beardsley Zoo’s Wild Wine, Beer & Food Safari 2013.  This year the rumpus happens on Saturday, June 8 from 6-9 pm.  Click here to get your tix at either 1 for $55, 4 or more for $50 each, or pay $60 at the door…assuming there are any tickets left.  And, if you’d like a special experience and would love to really give back to Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo, you can buy a “Behind the Scenes” VIP ticket for $100 which gives you special experiences with animals from 4:30-5:30 before the event even begins!

Like last year (it was very successful and very well attended), there will be plenty of food, wine, and beer (both international and local) to go around.  And, when you’ve had your fill of food and drink, you can trollop or gallop around the zoo, checking out some of the exhibits and the animals (some areas will be blocked off).   So, as for food, you can have the yumminess of:

Fun-raiser: Wild Wine, Beer + Food Safari 2012 @ The Beardsley Zoo – Bridgeport, CT

19 May

*-*

Update:  2014 tix are now on sale!

Isn’t that just the cutest picture you’ve ever seen?  Is he holding up the wine to observe the color before he swishes it around?  Is he raising it as a toast to all animals at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport?  Or, is he ready to down some of the good red stuff?  Well, I guess he could be doing all three.  Maybe he’s just raising a glass to you for coming along to Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo‘s Wild Wine, Beer & Food Safari on June 2 from 6-9 pm.  He doesn’t have any pockets, but he’ll be asking for $55 online (buy here), $50 for groups of 4 or more, or $60 at the event…if he hasn’t sold all of his tickets.

This will be one wild tasting event to be a part of.  Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo will have fun stations where you can get your grub on such as drinks from Wine Emporium of Shelton, as well as local restaurants and caterers.  Because there is alcohol there, you must be 21+ to enter.  Oh, there is more, though, for our fur loving friends.  There will be live entertainment and you’ll have a chance to prance and stomp around Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo to check out all the animals.  Also, put your bid down on some silent auctions like a trip to The Cape, signed sports goodies, theater tickets, beauty packages, and more.  All proceeds from this fundraiser will help the Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo‘s operation, its growth, its educational programs, and its conservation initiatives.
