Get Stoked: The New Stony Creek Brewery and Brew Magic Series

14 Nov

Numbers don’t lie (more on that below), but that’s not what Stony Creek Brewery of Branford, CT now believes. They started by producing their 203, 860, and 401 brews right at Thomas Hooker, so they never did have a place of their own. But, that’s soon to change as they get ready for a February/March opening of their brand new brewery in Branford. What will it be like, what changes have they made, and what kind of brews do they have planned? We found out all of those things when we had a nice talk with Sales Director Jamal Robinson who used to work at Blue Point . . . and we’re ready to share everything that we learned: Continue reading

Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Day will be taking over New Canaan and three other CT towns…

The food revolution will be televised…and will make its way to New Canaan on Saturday, May 17, from 9:30-11:30.  That’s when Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution will take the town and its Pop Up Park (off of Elm) by storm.  The idea behind Jamie’s Food Revolution Day is helping the children of the world to not only eat healthier, but to fight obesity, find ingredients for meals from local and sustainable sources, and for families to spend more time together cooking and eating.

Explore Some More: 2013 Branford and New Haven Restaurant Weeks

3 Apr

Spring is here, so why not celebrate with some great food?   And, why not throw in some great deals and prixe fixed meals?   Yup, it’s everybody’s favorite time…restaurant week!   First off, why not enter to win a $25 gift card to some local Branford businesses and restaurants just by clicking here?  Once you’ve done that, you can check out special deals and prices during their Restaurant Week from April 14-20.   We’ve listed all the info for you (20% gratuity is added to restaurant week checks) and even have a special recco from our friend Edwin Williams Bartlett of the awesome CT Out and About about one of his favorite spots, Home:

“All home runs! I don’t like tomato soup in general, but Home’s is amazing. I either have the patty melt or the Cuban (not on the list) when I am there and it has the same pork flatiron as the special, and it is the best piece of pork on a plate in the state. Their mac & cheese is to die for…I was a guest for the new menu meeting for the staff back in October, so I am very familiar with the whole menu.  I was very impressed with the Artic Char, which I much prefer to salmon, and it’s even wild caught. The pan seared scallops and the duck breast really caught my attention, too.”

Chili Challenge for a Cause Heats up Branford

22 Feb

It’s a scientifically proven fact that chili makes the world a better place.  In the case of Branford, that’s even more true.  Chili is bringing the community together with the first annual Chili Challenge for a Cause event.  Restaurant owners, chefs, organizations, and locals are all putting together their killer concoctions in hope of winning the title of “Best Chili in Branford” but also getting some serious dough for their own charity.  Susan at the Chamber of Commerce told us that she can still add some chefs to the contest, so if you’re in, e-mail her.

On March 23 from noon to 3 pm you need to hit up Branford Green on Main Street to be a part of the action.  For $10 you’ll get a wristband that lets you taste as much chili as you can take.  You’ll also be given a ballot which you’ll use to vote in your favorite chili!
