Excuse us for a second. We’re still trying to recover from some heart-wrenhing news that we discovered a few weeks ago. Yes, yes…it’s true, it’s all true. Sanrio revealed that Hello Kitty is actually not a kitty. She’s actually a girl dressed as a kitty! We know, we know, your world is shattered, and you’re still trying to pick up the pieces…us too…us too.
There are lots of surreal moments that we remember. One of the most recent was rolling up to Coalhouse Pizza on Monday and hearing the DJ on 95.9 talk about the dinner we were headed to. WHAT? A shout out to Coalhouse Pizza and New England Brewing coming together to raise vital funds for the Bennett Cancer Center! Hours later, after a sprawling, decadent, and pourworthy dinner, attendees had raised a total of $1,200!
There are a bunch of things that we miss so much after moving from Stamford to Greenwich…and one of those things happens to be Vinny’s Backyard right in the Springdale area of Stamford. While you might look at Vinny’s from the outside and think it’s nothing too special, once you try the wings you will be enlightened, brothers and sisters. We consistently rank Vinny’s wings (Original, Sweet & Sour, BBQ, Chipotle, General Tso’s, Garlic Parmesan, or Sweet Thai Chili) as one of our favorites in the area, plus it’s a great place to try out one of their cracker-thin pizzas or to even straddle up to the bar and have some brewskis.
Not that you need permission from us to hit up Vinny’s because it is a favorite local spot, but you’ll definitely need to come by April 24, 2014 from 5 pm until 1 am for a special fundraising night. Vinny’s will be donating 25% of all beverage sales directly to the CT chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The money raised will help to provide women with mammograms, education, and assistance with breast cancer treatment for those who can’t afford it.
Over 100 people packed Coalhouse Pizza in Stamford on Monday, 10/21, for a five course dinner that featured the beer of New England Brewing Company. Matt Westfall (head brewer) and Sebastian D’Agostino (Assistant brewer) were on hand to talk about their beer and to partake in the awesomeness that Chef Eddie Hurtado, the kitchen staff, and the pizzaioli had in store for that night.
Yes, everybody was there for the NEBCO-infused food and the hard to find brews, but they were also there for an even greater cause…helping to eradicate breast cancer. With ticket sales and a generous donation from Gerard Robertson, owner of Coalhouse, $1,000 was raised and given to Stamford Hospital’s Bennett Center.
October is breast cancer awareness month and Fairway Market in Stamford is doing their part to help end this awful disease. On Thursday, 10/24, they’ll be helping Stamford Hospital to “Paint the Town Pink,” a month long campaign that helps to make more people aware of how to protect themselves from breast cancer.
All you have to do is go shopping at Fairway on 10/24 from 5-7 and register your name for the fundraiser. Once you’ve done that, 25% of what you spend will go to the “Paint the Town Pink Campaign.” Stamford Hospital will also have their Mobile Wellness Center parked outside and will provide mammograms. Appointments are suggested (but you could also “walk-in,” so call (203) 276-2602 or (203) 223-4181.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and TOMĀTO TOMÄTO is doing their part to not only bring awareness, but to also raise some money to help rid the world of breast cancer. All you need to do is stop by TOMĀTO TOMÄTO from 5-10 tonight (10/17) and try some of their pizza and entrees. They’ll be donating a portion of their sales directly to The William Raveis Breast Cancer Research Charitable Fund. In addition, you can buy 50/50 raffle tickets for just $5 and there will even be door prizes to thank you for coming by and helping to fight breast cancer.
