1/30 Brass Works Brewing in Waterbury is having their ribbon cutting ceremony today. It all starts at 12 and will include a grand opening party, beer tastings, and tours. Check out the brewery at 2066 Thomaston Avenue. Continue reading

Nomworthy Bites of Food + Beer News and Events in Fairfield County: 5/9-5/18/14

There’s so much going on this upcoming week that we just had to share some of the highlights with ya.  So, check out CT Beer Week happenings, some Mother’s Day events, plan for next weekend, check out some restaurant and farm updates, and let’s give some props to an awesome chef.  We have even more events listed under Nomworthy Events too, so keep up to date with the latest and greatest here in Fairfield County.

Keep it Local:  Celebrate CT Beer Week (5/12-5/18)

→ If you’ve got some time, check out the newly opened Overshores Brewing in East Haven, CT’s only Belgian style brewery.  Also, you might want to check out DuVig Brewery in Branford on 5/17 for their opening day!

→ Don’t forget about the Stone Brewing Beer Dinner at Ginger Man SoNo on 5/12

→ Lots of awesome beer to try on 5/13 with the Sierra Nevada and Oskar Blues Tap Takeover at Cask Republic Stamford

→ Ignite Stamford happens on 5/14 with Todd of CT Pour Tour who’s finishing up his 169 CT town gig.  After or before this event, check out Coalhouse Pizza which will be featuring four different versions of the Half Full Bright Ale.

→ Head to SBC Stamford on 5/15 from 6-9 to check out a collabo beer with Half Full, Stamford Ale.  There will also be a Half Full tap takeover, so come thirsty.  Then, just walk next door to check out Cask‘s Vintage Beer Night then take a cab or Uber it over to Coalhouse for their Rare Beer Night ft. KBS, Goose Island, and more hard to find brews.

Mother’s Day Happenings, 5/11

→ Bistro 7 in Wilton only has a few spots left for Mother’s Day.  Call them up at (203) 587-1287 to reserve your spot.

→ Bistro Latino in Greenwich is featuring a $42 prix fixe brunch (tax and tip extra) from 11:30-4 or their regular menu with some specials from 5-9 pm.

→ Dairy Inn:  Now under new ownership, this Springdale landmark is offering up some new choices…and some southern love.  From 11-3, your momma will get a free soft serve sundae with the purchase of Southern Brunch Special:  Momma’s Fried Chicken with either sausage gravy and a biscuit or potato salad.  You can order her 1 piece for just $5 or 2 for $7.25.

→ Parallel Post:  Take your mom out for a nice meal to this Trumbull hotspot.  Seatings are available from 1-10 pm, so make sure you call up and get a reservation because they are going fast.  We’ve got the menu up on our Facebook page, too.

→ Coalhouse Pizza:  If your mom loves brews, pizza, Irish fare, and a satisfying brunch, check out what they’ve got.  $12 pitchers of CT beer make mommy happy.

Whatcha doing next weekend?

→ 15 food trucks are converging at the Orange Fairgrounds on 5/16, all to help raise money for Race Brook School!

→ Beer, BBQ, and music takes over Danbury on 5/17 with the Brews and BBQ Festival!  

→ Todd Ruggere from CT Pour Tour visits Coalhouse Pizza in Stamford on 5/17.  10% of the profits from that night will go to help prevent pediatric cancer.  Also, the winner of the Sam Adams Utopia raffle will be announced, so make sure you get some $5 raffle tix.

→ Stop by Fairfield Cheese Co. from 12-3 on 5/17 for some Vermont Creamery goat cheese samples and also munch away on some cheeseburger sliders from 12-4.  One lucky raffle winner will also get a gift certificate to Fairfield Cheese Co.

→ Get ready for some great time on the farm and to enjoy the beauty of Stamford Museum and Nature Center’s Spring on the Farm Festival Weekend .  Come on 5/17 or 5/18, your choice…but just be aware that there are some slight differences in the food trucks that will be available on Saturday and Sunday.

Cha, cha changes…

→ Farmer’s Table in New Canaan hasn’t closed, it’s just moved right across the street at 12 Forest Street.  Right now, they’re only open for dinner from 5-9 Monday-Thursday and 5-10 Friday and Saturday.

→ Bar Sugo, Norwalk:  Chefs Failla and Pascarella have opened up this Norwalk hotspot for dinner on Mondays with half-priced wine and lunch Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

→ Sport Hill Farm in Easton opens for the season on May 17!  Hours are from 9-6 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays, from 9-7 on Wednesdays, and 11-5 on Sundays.  Also, stop on by on May 18 at 11 or 2 to get a tour of the farm.  Patti Popp will show you around and also let you have a taste of some of the products that they carry at their market.  It’s free, but please RSVP to Patti at farmgal596@gmail.com so she knows how many people to expect.


→ Robin Selden of Marcia Selden Catering and Event Planning has been named to the Women in Business panel at Moffly Media’s 7th Annual Women in Business Discussion & Reception.  Robin will be a panelist alongside famous journalist Joan Lunden, and Brett Galley, Director of Special Events and co-owner of Hollywood Pop.  This event will take place on May 21 from 5:30-8:30, costs $65 per person, and inclucdes cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a chance to snag 18k gold Ippolita Cascade Earrings donated by Lux, Bond & Green.
