Food and Drink Aplenty @ 15th Annual Taste of Ridgefield

13 Jan

Ridgefield is quite the dining destination for many reasons. First up, it’s home to our favorite restaurant, Bailey’s Backyard with Chef Forrest Pasternack at the helm. Ridgefield was also recently noted as the place that has the highest restaurant to person ratio in Fairfield County.  And, it was named as one of the top 25 towns in New England for culinary awesomeness by GoLocal.

That’s pretty amazing if you ask us. Even if you don’t ask us, we’ll say it’s amazing. :)  Well, you’ve got the perfect opportunity to explore the food and drinks of Ridgefield with the 15th Annual Taste of Ridgefield event, put together by the Ridgefield Rotary. The food (and drink) coma from sampling at 36 different spots begins on 1/26 and will include two tastings from 12:30-2:30 and 4-6.  Tickets are $20 for kids aged 8-12, $40 if you buy tickets in advance or will be $45 at the door of the Ridgefield Community Center. Pick up your tix by visiting the Ridgefield Rotary site or pick them up from any Ridgefield Rotary Club member, Squash’s, Dimitri’s Diner, Cellar XV, Bistro 7, Deborah Annes, and the Women’s Center.

And, here’s what you’ll get:

Olio in Stamford to Host Backyard Humanitarian Fundraiser

Pork shoulder with guac, onion salad, atop platanos at Olio on Hope Street, Stamford

Pork shoulder with guac, onion salad, atop platanos at Olio on Hope Street, Stamford

When we broke the news about Olio last year, we were excited at the chance of a great new restaurant, but we were pleasantly surprised to see that it was more than great.  In fact, the food that Chef Steve Costanzo is pumping out is pretty darn awesome.  Service has always been excellent, especially with co-owner Moira Hyland overseeing the dining room.

We’re letting you know that Steve and Moira have teamed up with Backyard Humanitarian for a special night of dining.  All you need to do is stop by Olio on 2/7 from 5:30-10 pm and 20% of all sales will be donated to Backyard Humanitarian.  If you’re not familiar with BH, check out this description from their site:

Backyard Humanitarian is a grassroots all volunteer group that provides humanitarian services to those in need in our community and volunteer opportunities for those who want to make a difference for others right here, right now. Though there may not be daily news reports about the people in our community, there are many who are suffering and need our help. We can make a difference.  Backyard Humanitarians help people, animals and the earth.

Spots for this fundraiser are disappearing quickly, so you’ll want to call up and make a reservation by calling (203) 817-0303.  In the meantime, check out more about Olio, our dining experience, and their FB page for mouth-watering daily specials.

Rock the Dock Party to Help Rebuild Bridgeport Harbor, 6/30/12

14 Jun

When Kristien and I lived in Black Rock, we loved checking out the water, the beaches, and the docks.  One lucky day we got to break some waves on a friend’s boat and ride all around Long Island Sound, wind in our hair, bugs in our face.  Well, not everybody gets an opportunity like that, but Connecticut Community Boating is making it easier.  They’ll be raising money with an event of massively fun proportions on June 30, the Saturday before July 4.  With the money, they’ll help rebuild Bridgeport Harbor so that wounded warriors, people of all income levels, and people of all abilities can ride the Long Island Sound.

Tickets are super affordable, only $20 for adults, $35 for couples, and free for adults.

Check out all they have to offer:

  • all the food you can eat (included in ticket)
  • live music
  • prizes & giveaways every 20 mins
  •  a live auction featuring great deals from Fairfield County’s best artists, restaurants, attractions and hot spots
  •  family fun
  •  community info
  • sunset boat rides along the banks of the Pequonnock and Bridgeport Harbor where we will be building the Bridgeport Boat Basin!

Tickets are limited – so get yours today- click here to purchase!
