Local CT Schools, Restaurants + Markets Come Together to Help Camp Promise

25 Feb

Group Shot Camp Promise“Camp Promise is a big treat for me and all the kids and their families. We experience the time of our lives with activities we get to do and a chance to make new friends. The cabins have so much room, the food is good. We have counselors that are almost the same age as us which I like, and they’re very nice. I like that campers and counselors have things in common, like going to college and finding jobs. The fundraising in Stamford is great. We’re so happy that people care about us and keep hope alive for a cure as well” Nicholas, 20, camper at Camp Promise.

If you’ve been with us for a year or two, you might remember that around this time we talk about Camp Promise and all the great things that they do to provide a great camp experience to people with muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular disorders. Through fundraising, campers are able to attend for free, sometimes getting the chance to do things that they never dreamed of like go to a dance, swim, or play a sport. It’s a great cause and for people in Fairfield County it’s easy to help raise some dinero for this great cause.

Chocolate, Wine & Food Lovers Evening 2015 Sweet Deets + Ticket Giveaway

19 Jan

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and, you know what that means: yup, time for the annual Chocolate, Wine, & Food Lovers Evening! This year it’s going down on 2/5 from 6-9 at The Marriott Hotel & Spa in Stamford. This event has been held as a way to not only help people find the best drinks, food, and desserts in Fairfield County, but to also give attendees a chance to pick up some great gifts at the Valentine Boutique or via silent auctions. But, the real heart of the event is the cause: 100% of the proceeds go directly to Shelter for the Homeless, a Stamford-based organizaton that serves Lower Fairfield County by “[P]roviding temporary housing to homeless men, striving to obtain permanent supportive housing and services for men and women tailored  to meet their relevant needs, and empowering people to help themselves achieve their greatest level of self-sufficiency.”

Last year was so much fun, we talked with so many great people, ate so much great food and tried out so many new restaurants, drinks, chocolates, and cupcakes that it was well worth it. Tickets are just $60 and can be bought here, by calling (203) 406-0017, or online/at the door for $70 after 2/4.

Wheat Beer at Port Chester Hall and Beer Garden

Here at OmNomCT we gather lots of stories and ideas. The amazing thing is that sometimes these ideas begin to shape up into something bigger, something greater. Case in point: learning about a free beer offer at Mama’s Boy. We gathered it, we kept it, we preciously held onto it. Then, just a while later, we found some other great things going on like giving back to the military by drinking a Guinness or getting a deal on a ride to a local burger and beer joint.

Well, let’s do it:

5 Ways to Help Local Food Banks this Thanksgiving in the Stamford Area

21 Nov

While our blog focuses on the best places to eat, great beer, and fun experiences here in CT, we also like to help give back any way that we can. And, because you are all so freaking awesome, we’re sure you feel the same kinda way that we do. You want to be able to help out people in need. So, we’ve compiled four ways for you to get involved and help local food banks this holiday season. But, please, remember that the need for support is year-long and these organizations can always use your support.

1) If you’re already heading to The Palace in Stamford this weekend to see The Four Freshmen or Warren Miller Entertainment, just bring some cans to help families have a good meal for Thanksgiving. Non-perishable items will be donated to The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County.
