Bobby Q’s Pit Stop in Greenwich: Bob LeRose Opens 3rd Restaurant with Cousin Joey Boucher!

12 Feb
The Pitmaster Challenge, in all its glory!

BBQ…burgers, dogs, and more to be served at Bobby Q’s Pit Stop in Greenwich

Bob LeRose, owner of Bobby Q’s in Westport and Bar Q in Stamford grew up in the Riverside neighborhood of Greenwich, CT.  Do you think he ever realized that just right down the block from his first home would be the site of his future restaurant, his third nonetheless?  Or, do you think he ever could have imagined that he’d create one of the best festivals in Connecticut:  Blues, Views, & BBQ?  How could any person (aside from John Edwards) fortell such awesomeness?

So, what does Bob LeRose have in store for us in Greenwich with Bobby Q’s Pit Stop (no site yet) that will open in about three weeks?  Well, starting off he’s teamed up with his cousin Joey Boucher who first opened up Joey B’s in Cos Cob.  This team makes the perfect pairing for what Bobby Q’s Pit Stop will be all about:  bbq, burgers, dogs, chili, sides, and salads to go.  Their new restaurant will be located at 1340 East Putnam Ave. in Greenwich right where Moe’s Burger Joint used to be.  If you feel like eating in, there will be 12 seats and plenty of standing room while you devour the best of American cuisine.  Speaking of the food, let’s dive deeper into the menu.  There will be some classic dishes from Bobby Q’s in Westport.  On the menu will also be five different chilis based off of the family recipe, held onto by their Uncle Frank.  The dogs featured here blew Bobby and Joey away and are made by a company in Boston.  They are the first restaurant in Connecticut to serve these dogs up!  The burgers are going to be great too, made with fresh daily ground beef that is sourced locally.  Also, the salads are a nice option for friends or family members who don’t want meat or want something not as heavy…there are plans for three different kinds right now.  Rounding things up are the sides, many of which are vegetarian friendly…very nice touch.  You don’t have to be Debbie Downer anymore and be the one to say, “Oh, but they don’t have anything vegetarian here!”

Connecticut’s Largest BBQ Fest Coming to Mohegan Sun!

4 May

Need your BBQ fix and need it soon?  Well, check out the largest BBQ Fest in Connecticut at Mohegan Sun from June 1st-June 3rd.  Yes, that’s three days of BBQ.  Three days.  Sun BBQ Fest goes down in the Winter Parking Lot, so start stretching those bellies.  Just a sampling of what to expect:  BBQ demos, live bands, “BB QnA” sessions with Pitmaster Troy Black, DJ Chef Marc Weiss, shop the Sardilli Farmer’s Market, conquer the mechanic bull, and watch Joey “Jaws” Chestnut devour ribs in a spectacular eating contest.  Let’s gnaw on this a bit:

$30 per day.  That’s pretty inexpensive for the food and fun.  Use the money you saved on some blackjack hands. ;)

You’ll get 8 food tickets.  Kids 10 and under are free, but food tickets are extra for them.

BBQ Goodness

They will have ribs, pulled pork,  good ol’ fashioned BBQ chicken, and more for you to taste and drool over.  You’ll be able to meet (meat?) some of the nation’s best experts and vendors, too.  Imagine picking up lots of great rubs, sauces, tools, and tips.  Ah, there aren’t too many things better in life that that.  You’ll also be able to check out the wares of Sardilli Produce and Dairy so you could get all your sides ready for the BBQ experience of a lifetime!

BBQ on the Brain

Learn how to BBQ like a pitmaster champ, chump.  There will be lots of chances for you to learn skills and tips from the masters and you’ll also be able to take part in a question and answer session with Troy Black.  You’ll also be able to meet Ray Lampe aka Dr. BBQ.  Take notice:  your bbq game’s ’bout to be elevated to the next level.

Lots of Fun

Check out performers like Robert Cray, Jay Dempsey & Highway Call, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, Mammoth Jack, and Shady Creek.  Also, not to be missed is DJ Chef Marc Weiss who will be spinning music and putting together some dishes at the same time.  Not sure how that will work, but we are intrigued…quite intrigued.

Lastly, check out the man who put Takeru Kobayashi (is it sad or awesome that I know how to spell his name) to shame…Joey “Jaws” Chestnut.  He’ll be competing in a rib eating contest on Saturday, 6/2 at 4 pm. Back on 8/27/08, Joey devoured 9.8 pounds of pork rib meat at John Ascuaga’s Nugget Casino Resort in 12 minutes.  He holds the record now, so we wonder if he’ll be able to beat his IFOCE (International Federation of Competitive Eating, duh) record.

NOTE: Mohegan Sun requires persons under the age of 18 to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian from opening until the close of the event. Unescorted minors will have their parent/legal guardian contacted to pick them up immediately.

Bobby Q’s owner answers some Qs about his new BBQ joint–BarQ in Stamford. It’s Q-riffic.

Imagine this, but smaller…

Update: BarQ B.B.Q. is open and here’s our review!

It’s about to get a little saucy up in this joint.  Bob LeRose, the BBQ genius behind Bobby Q’s Bodacious BBQ & Grill in Westport and the Blues, Views, & BBQ festival, is fixin’ to bring some more flavor to Downtown Stamford.  He’ll be opening BarQ B.B.Q. where Hula Hanks used to be along with the help of Post Road Entertainment (Black Bear Saloon, 84 Park, and Wicked Wolf Tavern).  I had a chance to talk with Bob and we’ve got lots to share with you.  Namely how we think BarQ will be a game changer and will open the world of BBQ to more people than ever.

BarQ will introduce 10-15 “bar snacks” that are BBQ influenced.  So, you could mosey on down to the bar, order some snacks, and drink the night away.  You can expect lots of great drinks and more of a social kind of vibe here, so it’ll be perfect to meet up with some friends, go out on a date, or just hang out.

But, what about the BBQ?  Oh, my smoke loving friends, let me tell you why BarQ will rock your world.  BBQ dishes will be served a la carte, so you’ll be able to get smaller portions of your favorites such as pulled pork, ribs, brisket, and chicken.  Also, you’ll be able to mix and match as many sides as you’d like to your heart’s content.  So, just want a snack sized BBQ portion of some of Bob’s awesome brisket?  Go ahead and order it!  Feeling a bit oinky?  Do it up with lots of bbq plates and sides.  BarQ has you covered whatever appetite you walk in with.

“We’ll introduce more people to the world of BBQ,” Bob told me, “they won’t feel as overwhelmed.”  Oh yes, imagine the possibilities.

Can’t wait for them to open?  Want a sample of what to expect?  Check them out at Taste of Stamford on 2/16/12.
