Hoptimists Rejoice: Half Full Brewery of Stamford Expands into Hartford, Windham, and Tolland Counties…and???

7 Mar

When we went to the January Rare Beer Night at Half Full Brewery, we had these crazy flashbacks.  Images of the building shot into our heads…images of the building’s guts torn apart, images of Conor and crew ripping apart a second floor to make way for a tasting room, and images of a half-finished brewery.  And, we woke up from our flashback, looked around and saw the tasting room packed, people eager and thirsty for some Half Full beer.  Damn, it was amazing to see what a difference a year could make!

New England Brewing Co. Opens New Spot on Saturday in Woodbridge!

19 Dec
New England Brewing Company Logo
We told you about New England Brewing Co. of Woodbridge moving down the road to some bigger digs back on September 3.   And, dear beer lovers, the day has finally come when you can check out their new brewery.  So, let’s get this started….
The first official day for growlers fills is this Saturday, 12/21.  They’ll be filling you up with six different NEBCO brews, though Matt and co. want to keep the exact lineup a surprise.  Hmm, wonder what they’ll have?   With New England Brewing, it’s hard to tell because they are so dark, brooding, and mysterious…
And, to make your Christmas a NEBCO Christmas, you can stop by for grower fills and tastings on Monday from 3-7 and Tuesday 11-3.  Just sayin’:  if they have 668:  Neighbor of the Beast on tap, you could serve it honor of your in-laws visiting or your evil twin.  Just sayin’.

Two Roads Celebrates First Year with Anniversary Session IPA

18 Dec

Two Roads Anniversary Session IPA

One year?

Holy crap, we swore Two Roads Brewing Company in Stratford had been open for at least a few years, but no.  It’s only been a year.  Maybe we think that because they’ve crammed so many events and beer releases into those 365 days.

Well, add one more brew to that list!  That’s right, come down to Two Roads today to get a pint, growlito, or even a growler of their brand new  Anniversary Session IPA…it’s made with Mosaic and Azacca hops.  Like any of their limited release beers, this will be sold out super quickly, so make sure to get down to Stratford.

Brew-view: Roadsmary’s Baby – Two Roads Brewery – Stratford, CT

29 Aug

Our search for the brand new release of Roadsmary’s Baby started this past Friday when this Two Roads brew was first released.  See, we had just moved into an apartment building that people had warned us about.  Apparently a beer writer used to live there that went crazy and began worshipping the devil.  We had heard of other strange things, but we decided that these things only added more character to the building.  Plus, we’d have lots of crazy stories to tell people when they came over to visit.  People were strange and suspicious that we met there, but life was good still. Well, that’s until Kristien was drugged then was taken advantage by a demonic force. Dan seemed to care, but after the birth he stole the baby away to share with his fellow devil worshippers. This child would be the future ruler of the world, fathered by Satan himself.  Or, something like that. And, that’s about when Two Roads heard about our story and decided to create a beer in honor of our tragically demonic story.  Or, something like that.

Beer: Roadsmary’s Baby

Brewery:  Two Roads Brewing Company in Stratford, CT

Style:  Pumpkin Ale

You Voted: What Are CT’s Best IPAs?

9 Aug

Best IPA in Connecticut 2013

When we set out to see what Connecticut’s favorite IPAs were, we had no idea that so many people would vote.  By the end of Thursday there were almost 1,000 votes…quite an impressive number.  While New England Brewing Co’s Gandhi-Bot took the lead from the start, Shebeen’s Black Hops IPA quickly dominated, followed by Willimantic’s VEG IPA overcoming them all.  Then, in an amazing show of unison, IPA lovers voted for Beer’d Brewing’s Grove Stand Double IPA.

And, that leads us to the winners!  While your favorite CT IPA might not have placed how you wanted, take this as a sign a from the beer gods.  They want you to check out these breweries and try their brews.  It’s always cool to try new things.

Shakesbeer Festival Celebrates CT Beer, Food, Music and Theatre

6 Aug

Hath not a brew hops?

Hath not a brew malts, barley, IBUs, ABVs?

If you drink us,

are you not quenched?

William Shakesbeer, Merchant of Ales

O Bromeo, Bromeo! wherefore art thou Bromeo?

Deny thy beer and refuse thy thirst;

Or, if thou wilt not, be but parched my love,

And I’ll no longer be a Beer-guzzler.

William Shakesbeer, Bromeo and Juliet

Out, damned beer!  no more, I say!

One; two:  why, then, ’tis time to refill.

The beer is murky.

Fie, my bro, fie! a bartender, and a draft spout?

William Shakesbeer, MacGuinness

Double, double IPA, a double;

fire burn, and wort bubble.

William Shakesbeer, MacGuinness

To drink, or not to drink, —there is no question:—

Whether ’tis better at the bar to suffer

The wait times and costs of outrageous fortune

Or to lift a glass to a growler of beer,

and by drinking finish it?  To drink, to sleep, —

William Shakesbeer, Porklet

Ride the Lightning! (Please don't sue us Lars)

While William Shakesbeer might not have changed the face of the world, it’s clear to see the influence that William Shakespeare’s plays and poetry have had.  He took drama and comedy in new directions and you can see strains of his plays in movies even today.  And, chances are, you have a local Shakespeare company that performs some of his plays during the summer.  Did you know, though, that Stratford has the American Shakespeare Theatre?  But, here’s the problem…it’s been closed for about 30 years and they just can’t seem to gather the funds to reopen.  Well, now it’s the right time to do something about it!  And, all you’ll have to do is buy a ticket to the Shakesbeer Festival!

The Shakesbeer Festival is on 8/17 from 4-8 pm, is $75 $50 per person, and that includes a tasting glass, beer, food, and live music.  Starting off, we were told by event director Steve Bilodeau (Beer Manager) of Wines Unlimited that all CT breweries will be represented through the help of the CT Beer Guild.  For food, you’ll have Cowabunga food truck, Vazzy’s, and Paradise Island along with a selection of seafood from local purveyors.  And, for entertainment, you’ll be happy to hear that the first winner of NBC’s The Voice, Javier Colon (CT native), will be on hand and will be singing!

All profits that are made through this event will be donated to the Stratford Art’s Council.  From there, they’ll being the process of restoration and reopening of the American Shakespeare Theatre.  We hope you’ll be able to make the Shakesbeer Festiva and would like to thank Steven for talking with us about this event that he is so passionate about.  Also, we’d like to thank Leslie Reiter of Two Roads (say hi to her in the beer truck) for bringing this event to our attention.
