Ambler Farm is back for some more fun this year as they continue the tradition of their popular Art of the Wreath holiday party.  It’s all going down on 12/6 at Ambler Farm in Wilton from 7-10 pm and costs $55 for members or $60 for non-members.  Now, let’s talk about why this will be the party of the season:

1) There will be lots of custom-created wreaths that will be up for display in the Carriage Barn.  So, maybe you love one of those wreaths?  Bid on it, and, if you win, take it home!

Celebrate Connecticut Farm to Chef Week 2013 at Farms, Restaurants…and Schools

The premise of Farm to Chef Week (September 15-21) in Connecticut is pretty simple.  Use the freshest, most local ingredients from Connecticut farms at restaurants and different venues throughout the state.  While some of the restaurants that are participating such as ON20 in Hartford, Zinc in New Haven, or Rizzuto’s might not surprise you because they already make good use of local ingredients, there might be some surprises for you on the list.  We’re talking about local schools like Branford, Newtown, Westport, and Wilton as well as colleges such as Fairfield University and University of Connecticut in Storrs.

When you visit any of the restaurants listed below here during Connecticut Farm to Chef Week, you can expect special menus and offerings.  Each participant must offer at least four foods or courses that feature one or more Connecticut Grown items.  And, if a venue allows alcohol, they need to also offer at least one Connecticut wine.  As for the farms listed below, they will be offering specialty items and produce during CT Farm to Chef Week.  Just check here to see what each farm is offering!’ Continue reading

Don’t get us wrong, we love September.  The weather is great…it’s not too hot, not too cold.  Dan is born in September, it’s the start of fall, one of our favorite seasons…but it also brings about the end of summer.

Well, you need not feel so down that the warmer days are gone because Millstone Farm in Wilton have two great workshops planned for you.  Each workshop costs only $30 so just e-mail info@millstonefarm.org to reserve your spot.  Get on top of that fast because the space in the Millstone Farm kitchen is limited.  Once you’ve safeguarded your spot, mail the check to Mill Stone Farm; 180 Millstone Road; Wilton, CT 06897.  Here are the details, straight from Millstone Farm:

Sunset Dinner w/ Drinks and Bites in the Garden at Ambler Farm in Wilton

Around this time last year we headed up to Ambler Farm in Wilton to take part in Bull N’ Brew.  The farm was beautiful and the night was just perfect, set off by good wine, beer, and food from Super Duper Weenie.  And, just about a year later Ambler Farm is holding another event…a much anticipated annual event.

We are talking about their Annual Sunset Dinner, this year called An Evening in the Garden at Ambler Farm.  The dinner will be held on June 15th from 6-10 pm and will take place inside their new educational gardens.  Program Manager Kevin Meehan not only developed these gardens, but has also tended them carefully—he did get some help from students, though.  :)  Tickets, which are soon to go fast, go on sale 5/15.  Tickets are $95 for members or $110 for non-members.  There will be lots of cocktails, little bites of goodness, and a whole buncha live music from local musicians.  After the little “garden hour,” guests will be treated to a full four course dinner from Bistro du Soleil as the sun sets.  And, in true farm dinner fashion, Bistro du Soleil will be using a good deal of Ambler Farm’s organic produce for the meal!  The lovely people at Ambler Farm were kind enough to share the menu with us, so we’ll share it with you:

Here it is…the day that so many have waited for.  That time of year when you can head out, grab fresh produce picked straight from the farm, find great local products, and help support local farmers and businesses.  Yes, it’s farmers’ market season and you’ll be happy to know that Westport Farmers’ Market is ready to open.  Their first day for the 2013 season will be May 23 from 10 am – 2 pm.  Then, every Thursday thereafter up until November 7 they will have their market.  Here are the farms and products that you can expect to see all year:

Celebrate Connecticut Farm-to-Chef Week at 65 Different Locations Throughout Our Fine State!

Eating local food shouldn’t have to be something that you seek out and search for.  You shouldn’t have to hunt down a farm to table restaurant or find out which places use local and sustainable food.  Imagine if we kept things local wherever we went to eat.  Imagine the jobs that would be opened up and how the Connecticut economy would thrive.  Well, Connecticut is trying to bring awareness to this and to the vast amount of farms throughout Connecticut by holding the third annual Connecticut Farm-to-Chef Week.  It runs from September 16 until September 22, 2012 at various locations throughout the state.  What’s very interesting about the list of restaurants that are participating is that, well, they aren’t all just restaurants.  You’ll see many schools on this list that want healthier, non-processed, and more local options for their menus.  You’ll even notice a couple of farmers’ markets on the list, too.  We got this info from CT Farm Fresh, if you’d like to check out more from and about them.

Wakeman Town Farm Holds First Farm to Table Event Featuring CT’s Best Chefs!

“Grassroots” is an event not to be missed.  It’s the kind of thing that if you miss it, you realize that you’re not one of the cool kids anymore.  It’s the kind of event that when you go, you realize how awesome food is and how wicked good it feels to keep it local.  Although the “Grassroots” farm to table dinner won’t be going on until September 15, we felt that we had to tell you about it now because tickets go on sale this Friday, August 3 and are $150 each.  Make sure that you’re following Wakeman Town Farm by e-mail newsletter if you’re a member…that’s where you’ll find the invitation.  It will also be up on their site with a link to purchase tickets via PayPal.

Here are some of the best chefs that CT has who are locavores, ready to transform local seasonal veggies (from nearby farms) into meals of yumminess:
