7 Apr

If you’re looking for the Connecticut Food Truck Festival 2014, click here.

New York has its food truck festivals, Boston, has its food truck festivals, and now Connecticut has a major festival, too. Let’s count ’em: 15-25 food trucks from Connecticut and surrounding states will show up at the Westbrook Tanger Outlets on 4/27-4/28/13.  Plus, Westbrook Assistant Manager David DelVecchio says he’ll be updating the list (we’ll update for you, too) every few days as Food Trucks 2 Go brings new trucks in.   There is absolutely no fee for attending, so you can use that saved dough to pig out. Here is the list as of 4/7:

The food trucks will be there for om noming from 11 am to 6 pm and there will be lots of live music to provide a soundtrack for your gorging pleasure. We’re talking The Red Hill Rockers, The Sin Sisters, The Shiney Lapel Trio, and others.  There will also be live cooking demos from Clarke, Kitchen Aid, Soda Stream, Williams Sonoma, Chef Kashia, and lots more.

Tanger Taste + Style Gift Getaway to Los Angeles with Curtis Stone

7 Apr

While researching an amazing food truck and food competition weekend, we came across a pretty awesome giveaway. In fact, it’s called the Tanger Taste & Style Gift Getaway and it’s going on until April 28. The first part is pretty easy and just requires you to purchase $125 of goods at the Westbrook (or any) Tanger Outlets (Kristien can do that in just one clothing store, man). Bring the receipts down to Shoppers Services Center, and you’ll get free “Made to Measure” Melamine Spoons that Curtis Stone has picked out just for you.

And, speaking of Curtis Stone, wouldn’t it be awesome to travel to Los Angeles and hang with him at a chef’s table on 5/20 while having a killer meal? What? You want more? Sure, you’ll also get a $1,000 shopping spree. You don’t have to buy anything to enter, either. Stop by any Tanger Outlets, find a registration box, or visit Shopper Services. If you enter, just make sure you can travel from 5/19-5/21.

3 Big Restaurant Giveaways from New England Culinary Group

2 Mar

Eating Greenwich and Port Chester 2013

Some contests have crazy rules such as:

  • taking blood from your first-born as the moon is in perigee during an odd month.
  • balancing on one foot while goats attack you as you try to click through and enter.
  • or watching a video about how seahorses give birth (what does that have to do with anything?) then finally getting a chance to win.

Well, this contest that New England Culinary Group (they created Eating Greenwich & Port Chester) is putting on is pretty darn easy.  Just like their FB page and you’ll be automatically entered into a contest to win one of three great restaurant prizes.  The contest ends by March 7, so you’ll need to get on that right now!  Would you like to know what the prizes are?

Chowdafest V Recap, Results, and Our Picks: Why 2013 Rocked!

Chowdafest V 2013 Crowds

We parked the Prius, walked into Webster Bank Arena, dropped off our food donations, then headed deep into all the action. No, there was no game that day, but there were thousands of gallons of assorted soups, chowders, and bisques. Chefs, owners, and their families waited with baited breath as thousands of chowdaheads came to see if they had what it took to be the next Chowdafest champion.

Corn Bisque from Valencia of Norwalk

Corn Bisque from Valencia of Norwalk

We dove into the action, right away, hitting up Valencia‘s Venezuelan Corn Bisque with a Corn, Fontina, and Bacon arepa ball. The soup was one of our favorites from the night, but what made it truly memorable was the nice finish from the arepa ball that remained crispy. Chef Michael Young didn’t seem flustered at all, even though his servers had no power and had to heat the soup up in a room near the top of the stadium. He’s the man…and it was a pleasure to catch up with him for a bit.

Kings Foods and Rui Correia from Douro Give You a Taste of Game Time!

28 Jan

Football Players

Some people want to elevate their game (pun definitely intended) when it comes to the spread on game day.  For many, wings and pizza from the freezer just won’t do.  Those foods definitely have their place, but let’s say you want to really impress your friends and family who are over for the game.  What do you do, who do you turn to?  While you have many great options nearby, Kings Food Market in Old Greenwich is worth checking out.

Check them out on February 2 from 1-4 pm for their first annual “Taste of Game Time” event featuring Rui Correia from Douro.  He’ll be cooking up some of his food from Douro and other great snacks that you can feature during your party this Sunday.  We’re interested to see the kind of foods that he’s picked, especially given his fun play on Portuguese and Mediterranean food with his tapas style menu.

When you’re there, you should also check out some of the great products that would fit in perfectly at your party such as Calavo Guacamole and Hummus, Rosa Mexicano Salsa, Skinny Pop Popcorn, Tyrrels Potato Crisps, Terrapin Ridge Farm Dips, Fentimans Soda, and Tonnino Tuna.  You can also pick up your catering order for game day, so if you’re interested in that, make sure to call up Kings.

There are two other things that you should be aware of, though.  You can enter to win the “Dine Out or Stay in Mexican Style” contest, sponsored by Kings and NYC’s own Rosa Mexicano.  The lucky winner will get dinner for two at one of their three NYC spots, the full line of Rosa Mexicano salsas, andKings gift card.  Touchdown! Plus, Kings is giving back to the communities of Greenwich, Stamford, and Port Chester by sponsoring a “Super Bag” food drive event.  All you need to do is contribute $10 and they’ll donate a pre-packed bag to Neighbor to Neighbor in your name.  You also have the option of buying your own items then putting them together to donate.

Did you just read about our recent dip into The Melting Pot in Darien?  We dipped the heck out of almost everything in existence.  Veggies, fruits, dumplings, steak, lobster, bananas, Oreo crusted marhsmallows.  Well, that wasn’t all with the cheese.  There was a rich Coq au Vin broth and a decadently devourworthy Chocolate Wildberry Crunch fondue.

Ready to go back for more or want to try The Melting Pot out for your first fondue experience?  We’ve got 4 $20 Dip Certificates to give away that can be redeemed at either Darien (CT), Westwood (NJ), or White Plains (NY).

So, here’s the deal…we’ll pick 4 winners who tell us their favorite dipping combos.  The contest will end on 5/26/12 at 4 pm.  Just leave a comment here answering one of the following questions:

1) What’s the best thing to dip into cheese?

2)  What’s the best thing to dip into chocolate?

Good luck! :)
