CT Beer WEEKS 2014: 2x Big, 2x Brews, 2x Awesome

16 Apr
CT Beer Week 2014

Because one week just wasn’t enough! :)

Last year marked the first ever statewide CT Beer Week, brought together by Connecticut Beer Wholesalers Association.  There was a kickoff with the Rising Pint Brewfest that featured over 70 brewers, plenty of events at breweries, restaurants, and retailers, and even a chance at unlocking the CT Beer Week Badge on Untappd.

Well, we’re happy to report that this year’s activities will include not just one CT Beer Week, but TWO…CT Beer Weeks.  Well, damn, that’s plenty of drinking time, right?  To be honest, it’s brilliant timing for both dates:  May 12-18 and October 13-19.

First off, American Craft Beer Week coincides perfectly with the first CT Beer Week of 2014…that’s no coincidence at all.  Breweries like Shebeen, Two Roads, Half Full, Relic, Thimble Island, New England Brewing, and Beer’d have been putting out some artfully artisan crafted brews, so it’s important to shift our focus to these guys.  You, or loyal readers, know about the importance of drinking beer from the “little guys,” but there are lots of people out there who have yet to have their first Gandhi Bot, Cannoli Beer, Biere de Mars, or Road 2 Ruin.  What better time to convert your friends and family? ;)

And, then there’s the second part of CT Beer Week…wouldn’t you know it, but it coincides nicely with CT Restaurant Week that goes down from October 14-20.  Again, this is no coincidence.  You can not only expect lots of great beer-related events, but you can also look forward to lots of great meal deals throughout the state.

We’ll have more details to share soon, but make sure to mark off your calendars with all of these dates.  In the meantime, check out these events and CT’s breweries:

Ginger Man + Coalhouse Celebrate American Craft Beer Week

13 May

American Craft Beer Week

Two of our favorite spots to get brews and grub in Fairfield County have lots of fun ahead for American Craft Beer Week.  ACBW kicks off today, 5/13, and goes until 5/19.  The focus of the beer week has always been on smaller batch brews, a focus on fine details, and more of a hands-on approach to beer.  Now, it’s no coincidence that Ginger Man in Norwalk and Coalhouse Pizza in Stamford live and breathe this philosophy year round, but you know they have to step up their game (is that possible?) to celebrate American Craft Beer Week.  It’s kind of like the Super Bowl of the beer world.

Coalhouse Pizza is featuring a week of tap takeovers:

Two Roads Brewery Has Some Serious (Meat)balls this Weekend

10 May

Get your mind out of the gutter, people.  We’re talking about Two Roads Brewery having The Local Meatball shop on hand for their Saturday food truck experience from 3-7 on 5/11, the start of CT Beer Week.    Since TLM launch on 4/20, Mike’s been gaining quite a following of ballers.  There’s no doubt that Mike will be serving up some Serious meatballs, his standard formulation made with Saugatuck Craft Butchery beef and other local ingredients.  Here are descriptions from his site about the meatball choices (there is usually Serious and one other on special):

SERIOUS:  made with the finest ground beef from Craft Butchery, we use only the best local ingredients. Soaked in our traditional sauce, they are like no other. These balls burst with flavor and are our version of the classic.
Future Specials
KICK IN DA:  made with the most tender local pork around and some hot cherry peppers to give them just the right kick. Served in a chunky, spicy sauce, they’re a win-win.
IN THE BUFF:  fresh ground chicken and our own buffalo sauce—these are the perfect combination of heat and flavor.
HONEY’S:  honey BBQ sauce from a local favorite and a tender, juicy pork ball…who needs ribs when you’ve got balls?
JEWELS:  these salty, sweet creations are what we like to call a “breakfast ball.” Made with delicious ground beef, sausage, bacon and chunks of melted cheddar cheese. Topped off with the tastiest local maple syrup on a soft, light and airy snowflake roll. They’re jewels.

Here’s how to do it:

1)  Place your oder.

2) Grab your slider, Average Joe, or Grinder.

3) Head upstairs to Two Roads Brewery  and down those meatballs with some old cold brews.  We highly recommend the saison.

4) Fill up some growlers or growleritos (they are so cute and tiny).

5) Get some more meatballs before you leave.

1st CT Beer Week Kicks off with Massive Rising Pint Brewfest

30 Apr

Update:  learn how to get your own CT Beer Week badge by using Untappd!

Connecticut, we have a beer week!  Actually, the FIRST annual CT Beer Week, brought to you by Connecticut Beer Wholesalers Association.  The brews are being poured out all over the Hartford and New Haven areas from May 11-18, 2013.  On the CT Beer Week Site, you’ll notice a big list of events that are going down.  That list is growing daily and we hope to see some events for Fairfield County, too.  The slogan for this week, as you can see, is “Brew & Buy Local.”  And, that’s part of the focus of this week:  let’s keep making Connecticut a great state for beer by opening up more breweries and buying the brews at pubs, restaurants, stores, and at the breweries themselves.  CT Beer Week also wants to show the Connecticut Legislature just how important beer is to Connecticut’s economy.  We can concur with that, having paid a nice portion of our salaries to Half Full, Two Roads, Charter Oak, New England Brewing, and City Steam.  Oh, and we’ve bought quite a few Hookers, too.

And, in addition to all the events that are happening throughout Connecticut, there will also be a massive gathering of over 60 70 brewers that will be providing samples for over 250 varieties and styles.  The third annual Rising Pint Brewfest is the literal kick off for CT Beer Week and happens on May 11 from 1-5 pm at Rentschler Field in East Hartford.  Tickets are $40 and that gets you free parking, a tasting cup, free live music from Kenny Mehler Band and Musical Monk, and tastes of all brews.  Proceeds will benefit Folds of Honor, who gives back to families of soldiers killed or disabled in battle.

Here are the restaurants that will be at the Rising Pint Brewfest:
