You Eat, You Vote: Food Truck Throwdown Hits Stamford May 19
29 AprBeing such big supporters of the CT Chefs Challenge from Optimus Health Care and the chefs that compete, we were excited to hear about the CT Food Truck Throwdown. Six of the best food trucks in CT have been gathered in a competition where you not only get to taste the best from each truck, but you also get a vote to crown the People’s Choice champ. It all goes down from 4-8 on 5/19 right at 805 Atlantic Street where there will be free parking. Each ticket costs $25 ($20 early bird until May 6) and that gets you a 4-6 oz. serving from each of the trucks. If you’d like an additional serving from a truck, you can always buy more. Proceeds from the night are going right to Optimus Health Care whose mission is to “Improve the overall health of our communities in Bridgeport, Stamford, and Stratford, particularly the medically underserved, by providing preventive, primary care and supplemental health care services along with health education in a culturally sensitive manner regardless of ones’ ability to pay.” Continue reading

7 Local Chefs Compete in 4th Annual Connecticut Chefs Challenge to Benefit The Optimus Foundation
17 SepFood competition shows are fun to watch on TV, no doubt. There’s lots of excitement, panic, stressful situations, and lots of smack talk going down. But, you miss out on a key component: interaction. You can’t talk with the chefs, (even though you might be yelling at the TV and telling them to not cook the pork for any longer, they can’t actually hear you) and you certainly can’t taste all the awesome food that they are making.
Well, you’ve got your chance as the Connecticut Chefs Challenge returns for another year at Lincoln Culinary Institute in Shelton. This year there are seven CT chefs who are vying to win the title of “Best in Show.” The fun begins at 5:30 with a cocktail reception where you’ll learn about The Optimus Foundation (they construct and maintain medical facilities in Fairfield County for communities in need) who this event benefits and you’ll get to down some great small bites to help prep you for the contest.
