Chef Plum takes over Edmond Town Hall for next installment of Dinner Underground

24 Feb

One of our favorite chefs here in Connecticut is hosting another event in his Dinner Underground series, but this time around it’s in a brand new spot. Yup, Chef Plum and the Plum Luv Foods crew will be taking over Edmond Town Hall (45 Main St.) in Newtown on March 8 from 7 until 11:30.

What can you expect? Well, to be frank: an awesome time. We’ve been to many of Plum’s pop-ups (Butcher’s Best, Williams-Sonoma, and his most recent Sourcopia at Two Roads) so we’re kinda experts. Actually, that kinda makes us groupies, huh? You can expect excellent service, great food and great wine pairings to go with each course. And, when you leave, you’ll actually leave full because portions are always nicely sized.

Some shots from the last Dinner Underground at Williams-Sonoma

Chef Plum, his trusty Sous Chef Justin Kern, and the Plum Luv Foods crew are back for some more action with Dinner Underground at Williams-Sonoma in Danbury.  This do-not-miss event is taking place on 5/4/14 and starts at 6:30.  Tickets come to $74.84 after a processing fee, but the meal is definitely worth it…don’t delay, either, they are almost sold out.  Not only will you get 7 courses, you’ll also get nice pours of wine, access to the Williams-Sonoma store after hours with a special discount, and maybe even a few surprises.

We went to the last dinner (the first pop-up dinner ever held at a WS) and had so much fun and, ironically, sat with the same awesome people that we sat with when we went to a Dinner Underground session that took place over a year ago.  Our favorite dishes are pictured above:  scallops with pork belly and a killer do-it-yourself polenta plate that featured three different toppings.

This time around, Chef Plum is featuring a menu that we want to devour bit by bit and of course he’s using pork belly:

Amuse Bouche – pickled veggie plate

Smoked Scallop “Crudo” with Celery Leaves and Fennel Pollen (ode to John Currence)

Asian Fried Chicken, Jalapeno and Onion

Compressed Ahi and Watermelon with Frisee

Crispy Beet Fries with Black Garlic Aioli, Birch Beer, White Bean

Roasted Pork Belly, Red Chili and Beer Foam, Local Maple

Mikshake (they are leaving this as a surprise, can’t wait…)

Chef Plum Talks Between Courses at the May Dinner Underground Event

Chef Plum Dishes on Dishes Between Courses

Chef Plum has another Dinner Underground up his chef sleeves.  This time around, Plum will focus on grassfed beef from Shire Gate Farms and will use other local ingredients that highlight our love of summer foods.  The Shire Gate Farm dinner is July 14 from 6-9 at Butcher’s Best in Newtown, CT.  Tickets are $80 (buy them here) and are limited to just 30 so you have to imagine they are going to sell out pretty quickly.  We were fortunate enough to be invited to attend his list dinner which was his own take on BBQ paired with beer from Saranac Brewing and we had a blast.

Sous Chef Justin Kern Prepares the Chicken

Justin Kern plates the chicken at the last Dinner Underground

You’ll find that Chef Plum and Sous Chef Justin Kern space out each course perfectly.  You’ll have plenty of time to try out each course, chat with your table mates, and just plain chill.  After you course is cleared away, Chef Plum (you’ve seen him on The Taste, Food Network, ehow.com, and OmNomCT) will talk about what you’re about to eat.  We’re talking the inspiration behind the dish, how it was made, what’s unique about it, and possibly his ideas on the big bang theory.

We hope you can make it!

Chef Plum Takes Dinner Underground Again with a Saranac Beer + BBQ Dinner – Newtown, CT

Now that we finally have that warmer weather that we dream of during the colder months in Connecticut, we can look forward to BBQ season.  For some, BBQ season never ends, though.  The tailgate warriors, the backyard chefs who won’t allow a little annoying snow to ruin their plans of cooking up some burgers on the barbie.  But, whether you’re a BBQ expert, a novice, or just a BBQ eater, you’ve probably never had a BBQ meal like the one that Chef Plum of Newtown, CT has planned out for Sunday, May 26 from 7 to 10.  He’s repurposed Butcher’s Best in Newtown as a pop up restaurant in his dining series called Dinner Underground.  Tickets are limited to just 30 people and cost $85.39 (that’s with the service fee) and you can buy them here.  So, you know how we work…this is where we explain why you need to get yourself to this event:
